Topic 1 : "Positive signals from the GST Council"

  • Council - a group of people elected or chosen to make decisions or give advice on a particular subject, to represent a particular group, or to run a particular organization
  • Fortnight - a period of two weeks
  • Signing off - to announce the end of something
  • Constitution - the set of political principles by which a state or organization is governed
  • Amendment -  a change made to a law or agreement
  • Regime - a system of rules that control something
  • Flagging off - to inaugurate something
  • The nitty-gritty - the basic facts of a situation
  • Outcome - the final result of a process, meeting, activity etc
  • Doable - able to be done
  • Consensus - agreement among all the people involved
  • Threshold - a level at which something happens (limit)
  • Turnover - the value of the goods and services that a company sells in a particular period of time
  • Compliance - the practice of obeying a law, rule, or request
  • Rationale - the set of reasons that something such as a plan or belief is based on
  • Subsume - to include something or someone as part of a larger group
  • Myriad - a very large number of something
  • Levies - taxes (an amount of money that you have to pay)
  • Juncture - a stage in a process or activity
  • Reckon - to think or believe
  • Contentious - causing disagreement between people or groups
  • Tangled - very complicated and difficult to deal with
  • Evident - easy to see, notice, or understand
  • Ratification - the official way to confirm something
  • To be on the same page - thinking in a similar way (to understand and agree with what is being done or suggested)
  • Accommodative - to provide enough space for something
  • Federalism - the system of giving power to a central authority
  • Prevails - to get control or influence

Topic 2 : "Joining the climate high table"

  • Climate -  the general weather conditions usually found in a particular place
  • High table - a table at a formal meal where the most important guests sit
  • Ratify - to make an agreement official by signing it or formally accepting it
  • Affirmation - an action of support or approval
  • Emerging - just beginning to exist or be noticed
  • Predicament - a difficult or unpleasant situation that is not easy to get out of
  • Poverty - the condition of being extremely poor
  • Eradication - to get rid of something completely, especially something bad
  • Curbing - to control or limit something harmful
  • There’s no denying - used for saying that something is clearly true
  • Predicated - depends on
  • Address - to try to deal with a problem
  • Emission - the act of sending out gas, heat, light, etc
  • Reticence - not willing to provide information about something
  • Apparently - based only on what you have heard, not on what you are certain is true
  • Commendable - deserving praise
  • Inevitable - impossible to avoid or prevent
  • Consultative - providing advice, information, or help on a particular subject
  • Comply - to act according to an order, set of rules, or request
  • Aspect - a particular part, feature, or quality of something
  • Precise - exact and accurate
  • Ill-equipped - without the necessary equipment, skills, or abilities to do something
  • Upgrading - to make a computer or other machine more powerful or effective
  • Renewable - something that can be produced as quickly as that is used
  • Convention -  a meeting that a lot of people belonging to a particular profession or organization go to in order to discuss things
  • Far-reaching - affecting a lot of people or things in an important way
  • Periphery - the less important part of a group or activity
  • Blueprint - a detailed plan for doing something new
  • Mandate - an official order to do something
  • Eco-friendly - designed to cause as little harm as possible to the environment
  • Greening - the process of becoming more active about protecting the environment
  • Initiative -  a new plan or process to achieve something or solve a problem
