International Affairs

• The first South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Youth Parliamentarians Conference on `Peace and Harmony for Development’ was started in Islamabad, Pakistan. 
• The two-day conference will be held from August 16 to 18, 2016.
• This conference intends to offer young Parliamentarians’ narrative as a prelude to the 19th SAARC Summit to be hosted by Pakistan in November 2016.
• The coastal state of Goa has been given the opportunity to host the BRICS summit.
• Goa was picked ahead of other states because of its high hospitality standards, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said in a statement.
• Note : The BRICS summit will be held in Goa in mid-October.
• India has provided One million US Dollars grant to Zimbabwe in the wake of El Nino induced drought disaster.
  

National Affairs

• The Union Government has allowed online authentication using Aadhar for new mobile connections. 
• In this regard Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued guidelines for Aadhaar Electronic-Know Your Customer (e-KYC).
• Puducherry today observed De Jure Transfer Day with pomp and gaiety. 
• It was on this day in 1962 French colonies of Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe were formally acceded to the Indian Union.
• On the occasion of the 70th Independence Day, Maharashtra launched India's first comprehensive 'Crime Criminal Tracking Network System’ (CC. inaugurated simultaneously on 15th of August.
• Under the CCTNS, the state government will raise a special cyber police force of around 1,000 policemen well trained to handle the growing incidents of cyber-crimes.

New Appointments

• President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed former Union Minister Najma Heptulla (76) as Governor of Manipur. 
• President also appointed Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Assam. 
• VP Singh Badnore has been appointed as the Governor of Punjab. 
• Jagdish Mukhi has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

Awards & Honors

• Central Leather Research Institute's Principal Scientist P Shanmugam has bagged the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award for meritorious services in the Higher Education Department of Tamil Nadu.
• The Kalpana Chawla Award for Courage and Daring Enterprise was presented to Jayanthi of Tamil Nadu.
