Topic 1 : "Resolving the NEET conundrum"

  • Conundrum - a confusing and difficult problem or question
  • Ordinance - an authoritative order
  • Exemption - happening at the best possible moment
  • Sole - only / single
  • Several - some
  • Denude - to remove the covering of something
  • Regulate - to control something
  • Jurisdiction - the official power to make legal decisions and judgements
  • Legislation - laws / rules
  • Prescriptive - saying exactly what must happen, especially by giving an instruction or making a rule
  • Underlying - used to describe something on which something else is based
  • Regulations - official rules made by an authority
  • Dissenting - expressing strong disagreement
  • Verdict - a decision made after judging the facts that are given
  • Plea - a request made in an urgent and emotional manner
  • Sisposed of - to deal with something so that the matter is finished
  • Keen - very interested, eager, or wanting to do something very much
  • Enforcing - to make people obey a law
  • Astronomical - extremely large
  • Convinced - completely sure about something
  • Disparities - differences
  • Linguistic - related to language
  • Adequate - enough or satisfactory for a particular purpose
  • Unfettered - not limited by rules or any other controlling influence
  • Unaided - without any help from anyone else / independently
  • Transparent - open and honest, without secrets
  • Exploitative - using someone unfairly for your own advantage
  • Contradictions - a combination of statements, ideas, or features which are opposed to one another
  • Ironed out - to remove problems or find solutions
  • Feasibility - possibility
  • Essential - necessary or needed
  • Crafted - to make in a skilful way
  • Ram something home - to show the importance of what you are saying in order to make some people understand it
  • Fiat - an order given by an authority

Topic 2 : "On the road to smartness"
  • On the road to something - to be likely to achieve something
  • Agglomerations - a large group of many different things collected or brought together
  • Grid - a system of wires through which electricity is connected to different power stations across a region
  • Walkability - a measure of how friendly an area is to walking
  • Evident - easily seen or understood
  • For instance - for example
  • Cited - to mention something as proof
  • Priority - something that is very important and must be dealt with before other things
  • Civic - relating to a city or town, especially its administration (municipal)
  • Anonymise - to remove any information that shows which particular person something relates to
  • Aid - help
  • Massive - large and heavy
  • Mobilise - to organize or prepare something
  • Congestion - too much traffic and movement is made difficult
  • Integrating - to combine two or more things in order to become more effective
  • Predict - to estimage / guess with the present experience
  • Pattern - a particular way in which something is done, is organized, or happens
  • Robust - strong and unlikely to break or fail
  • Low-hanging fruit - something that can be achieved very easily
  • Mandatory - compulsory
  • Tap into something - to manage to use something in a way that brings good results
  • Surplus - an amount that is more than is needed
  • Off-the-shelf - used to describe a product that is available immediately and does not need to be specially made to suit a particular purpose
  • Set the pace - to establish a rate or standard that others have to achieve
