International Affairs

• The World Health Organization lauded India's tobacco control mechanisms, calling the country a "champion" for curbing "tobacco marketing in films".
• Chinese President Xi Jinping has unveiled his new political theory "four comprehensives", calling for deeper reforms and rule of law, asserting his authority on the ruling Communist Party and emerging as its strongest leader.  
• 1st Indo Nepal Friendship Motor Rally 2015 was Flagged Off by Minister of State (Ind. Charge) Tourism & Culture, Ashok Chandra Panda at Hotel Mayfair Waves, Puri (Odisha) today.  
• This is the first ever Indo-Nepal Friendship Motor Rally. 
• This rally is being jointly organized by kalinga Motor Sports Club, Bhubaneswar and Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA). 
• About 24 Teams and 120 participants from INDIA & NEPAL took off on an exciting journey of 3060 kms spanning 10 days and touching Kathmandu would conclude at the India Gate, New Delhi on the 8th of March 2015.
  

National Affairs

• Nation remembers Great freedom fighter ‎Chandra ShekharAzad (23rd July 1906 – 27th February 1931) on his Death Anniversary today.
• He was a great Indian freedom fighter who was involved in Kakori Train Robbery, the attempt to blow up the Viceroy's train, and the shooting of Saunders at Lahore to avenge the killing of Lala Lajpat Rai.
• He was the mentor of Bhagat Singh, another great freedom fighter.
• After the independence, to commemorate Chandra Shekhar Azad, Alfred Park (Allahabad), where Chandra Shekhar Azad shot himself was renamed Chandra Shekhar Azad Park.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the government is ready to make changes in the controversial  Land Acquisition Bill if in interest of farmers.
• He termed MNREGA a failure of Congress but the scheme to continue.
• The Supreme Court today took a strong view against circulation of sexual violence videos on popular messaging services and their telecast on social networking sites, ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into two rape cases that were highlighted early this month by Sunitha Krishnan who runs the anti-trafficking NGO Prajwala.
• Haryana government today said it has decided to raise the cash reward under the inter-caste marriage scheme from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
• It was constituted under Rule 16 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

• Election Commission will link electoral photo Identity card with Aadhar number to stop duplication and to make electoral rolls error free.
• Around 10 to 12% entries in electoral roll are duplicate.

• The Supreme Court today held that a person can be accorded Scheduled Caste (SC) status on his re-conversion to Hinduism if he is accepted by fellow caste men and proves that either he or his forefathers previously belonged to that caste before embracing another religion.
• The Gujarat Forest department and Zoological Society of London entered into memorandum of understanding for the protection of Asiatic lion and its habitat which was inked on Thursday. 
• The Gujarat Forest department will use smart software which will be used for tracking the movement of their staff and even the lions. 
• This software has been developed jointly by the Zoological Society of London and the Gujarat forest department. 

Awards & Honors

• Ex-chairman of the Tata Group Ratan Tata has been honored with an honorary Doctorate of Automotive Engineering by the Clemson University at the South Carolina Automotive Summit.

New Appointments

• Justice Amitava Roy was today sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court.
• He was the chief justice of Orissa high court. 
• With his elevation, the strength of the apex court judges has gone up to 29.
• The apex court has a sectioned strength of 31 judges.
• Kshatrapati Shivaji, a 1986 batch IAS officer, has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Deaths

• Actor Leonard Nimoy (83), who won a worldwide fan base as the pointy-eared half-human, half-Vulcan Mr Spock in the blockbuster "Star Trek" television and film franchise, died today.

• Finance Minister ArunJaitley tables Economic Survey today.
• Growth rate of over 8% expected for 2015-2016
