Hello friends, this is Shubhagata Das from Kolkata. I had my SBI PO GD-PI on Yesterday (21st October 2014) from 11 am at Samriddhi Bhavan, Local Head Office, Kolkata.

I reached the venue by 10:30 am. After signing a register, we (the candidates) were led to a room in the 2nd floor for document verification. In my case, it was over by 11:15-11:20 am. Then I was led to a Board Room in the same floor and was asked to wait there.
I met other candidates there, from the 8 am schedule, who had finished their GD and were waiting for the PI call. Anyway, we (candidates of 11 am schedule) waited there till 1:30 pm, when we were offered lunch by the authorities. By 2 pm, everyone had finished his lunch.

The GD began at around 2:40 pm. The topic was: "With both spouses now working, should the joint family system be revived for the proper upbringing of the children?"

I spoke for the topic. I raised points like how it's still a norm in business oriented communities like Gujaratis, Marwaris & Punjabis and that job oriented communities like Bengalis and Marathis can take the initiative; how it would lead to greater savings hence greater financial security through pooling of money; how the children would get proper love and affection from the grandparents, and not left at the mercy of domestic helps; how it was a common practice till the 80's.
Others too raised similar points. One spoke about terminally ill, aged parents of the working couple to be looked after. Only one spoke against the topic.

The PI started almost immediately after the GD. I was the 2nd one to be interviewed. I'm giving some example questions:
1. Why are you working as a clerk after graduating from a prestigious institution like Presidency College? (I'm a BOB Clerk)
2. Do you know anything about quantitative easing?
3. Tell us about the recent disagreement between India and the WTO.
4. Why do you think, the sensex had suddenly shot up a few months back?
5. How is trigonometry useful in practical life?
6. Who was Livingstone? A surveyor or an explorer?
7. How many fountain pens have you collected till date? (My hobby) Name some internationally renowned brands of fountain pens (I could name quite a few-Parker, Sheaffer, Mont Blanc, Cartier, Waterman, Montegrappa, Visconti etc)
8. Tell us something about your bank (BOB). Who is the CMD? (I told them SS Mundhra was the CMD till 31st July, now he has become a Deputy Governor of RBI; I didn't know the name of the acting head).

There were still a few more questions which I can't remember off hand. Anyway, they thanked me and told me the interview was over. I thanked them back and left. For me, it was all over by 3:45 pm.
