IBPS PO IV Banking Awareness : Topics and Preparation Tips

Friends, finally the Admit Cards of IBPS PO IV Online Exam are also out. Now hardly two weeks are left for the final battle. We hope many of you might have already completed your preparation of all the topics and working on Practice Tests. But still some of our friends have a little confusion about the Banking Awareness section. As there is no proper source on "the topics to be covered", people are in a dilemma on What to read and What not to read. So here we are trying to make a detailed analysis on the Banking Awareness section based on Previous IBPS PO Exams.  

Even though we call it as Banking Awareness, officially it is known as General Awareness (with special reference to Banking Industry). As the name suggests the IBPS ask 50% questions from General Awareness and the remaining 50% are of the Special reference to Banking Industry (let's call it as Banking Awareness for our convenience). As you know, in IBPS PO IV, this section is of 40 marks. 

So we can say, approximately 

• 20 marks from General Awareness (15 Marks for Current Affairs + 1 Mark Standard GK + 4 Marks from Economics) and
• 20 marks from Banking Awareness (Traditional and Current Banking updates)

IBPS PO Topic-wise Marks from Banking Awareness Section

let's see the topic wise distribution of questions from General Awareness part first. Below graph shows the name of the topic and the marks details (you can click on the image to maximize it)

Analysis :

• The questions of this part will be similar to the questions which are being asked in remaining competitive exams. You can follow your favorite news paper / magazine or our current affairs updates to cover this area. 
• Initially they used to ask questions from last 6 months' Current Affairs (marked in grey color). But now a days, they are focusing on recent Financial / Economy updates.

Now let's see the topic wise distribution of questions from Banking Awareness part of previous IBPS PO Question papers. Below graph shows the name of the topic and the marks details (you can click on the image to maximize it)

Analysis :

• Banking Knowledge questions intend to test your understanding levels of Banking Functionality. These questions will be like "What will you do in so and so situation ?". For example, dishonor of cheques, cancellation of an account, dealing with negotiable instruments and bad debits etc. 

Important Points to Note :

• We suggest you NOT TO waste your time on traditional current affairs and GK. Because 80% of the questions will be from Banking / Economy Background.  
• You can expect 2 questions from people in news. 1 is from Banking background (CEOs, Heads of Banks / Banking Organizations, Chairmans of Various Committees), and the other one is from the People in News (Politicians, Authors, Controversial persons etc).
• You can expect 11 Questions (7+4) from recent financial updates. Try to read The Hindu Business Line, Financial Times news papers to cover this area. If you can't do this at-least  focus on "What RBI did in last 6 months".
• Apart from reading old schemes, focus on new schemes like "Jan Dhan Yojana". You will surely get at least one question from this area. 
• Merely mugging up the definitions and topics won't help you anymore. Because IBPS is focusing more on "Applicability". So you should read between the lines.
