International Affairs
  • The India-Africa Summit, which was scheduled to be attended by 53 countries in December, has been cancelled this year due to Ebola outbreak in that continent.
    • The First summit was held New Delhi.
    • The Second summit was held at Addis Ababa.
    • The Third India-Africa Summit was to take place in Gurgaon on 4th December 2014 (this summit will now be held only in 2015).
  • A United Nations-led team is headed to Liberia to assess the response to the Ebola virus, while a senior UN health official said a vaccine could be ready by the end of this year.
  • France has recently said that its jets had launched strikes inside Iraq for the first time since the country promised to join military action against Islamic State insurgents who have taken over parts of the country.

  • New Zealand Prime Minister John Key won an emphatic victory in New Zealand's general election to return for a third term, a result that will be seen as an endorsement of the way his National Party has handled the economy. 
  • Senior leader and former Odisha Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai was today expelled from the ruling BJD (Biju Janata Dal) by party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for anti-party activities.

  • Kerala State Science and Technology Museum of Thiruvananthapuram has drawn up various programmes to mark the entry of 'Mangalyaan', India's Mars Orbiter Mission, into the orbit of the red planet, expected to happen on September 24. 
MOUs
  • India today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh to cooperate on the historic Nalanda University project. 
    • The memorandum has been signed following a Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting between Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in New Delhi.
