National Affairs
  • Our President Pranab Mukherjee made his Twitter debut today just days before he completes two years in office. Mukherjee, who already has a presence on social media site facebook and enjoys 5.4 lakh likes, will be the first Indian President to be on twitter. You can follow him from here.
  • National Doctors' Day was celebrated to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
  • Nation remembers KalpanaChawla, the  first Indian-American astronaut and first Indian woman in space on her birth anniversary.
  • Indian-American scientist Akhouri Sinha got a rare honour with a mountain named after him in Antarctica in recognition of the pioneering biological research expedition he has done which provided critical data about animal populations.
  • Week-long annual tree-planting festival 'National Van Mahotsav' begins to spread awareness about importance of trees. This festival was initiated in the year 1950 by India's Union Minister for Agriculture, Kulapati Dr.K M Munshi.
  • The Punjab government today announced a financial grant of Rs 20,000 per month to the families of 40 people from the state stuck in strife-torn Iraq's Mosul area.
  • To check the ‘unreasonable’ increase in prices of some food items such as onions and potatoes, the Centre has convened a meeting of State Food Ministers here on July 4.
  • The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Awards, Shilp Guru Awards and Sant Kabir Awards to weavers and artisans for the year 2011 today (July 1, 2014) at a function at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Science & Technology
  • Orkut, Google's first social networking site, will cease to exist after September, with the Internet giant deciding to shut down the service launched 10 years ago.
  • NASA, the US space agency is going to launch a satellite that tracks atmospheric carbon dioxide, a leading greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. The launch of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 is expected at 2:56 am Pacific time from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

International Affairs
  • The US Geological Survey says a 6.2-magnitude earthquake has struck near Japan's Bonin islands archipelago some 800 kilometers (500 miles) south of Tokyo. 
  • Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party is widely expected to nominate him as a candidate for the country’s first directly elected presidential race.
  • French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as defence, trade and investment with India expressing keenness on setting up industrial bases for it to boost ties. He also extended his President Francois Hollande's invitation to Modi to visit France.
  • The next round of annual US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue would be held in Beijing on July 9 and 10.
  • Nicolas Sarkozy has become the first former French president to be taken into formal custody after he was detained for questioning in an influence-peddling probe.

Business & Economy
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has launched six digital branches across India (Mumbai, Bangalore,Chennai and Ahmedabad, besides Delhi), as part of its programme to offer next generation banking solutions to the mobile and internet-savvy customer base. One of such branches in Delhi was inaugurated this morning by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

  • The Algerian Football Association has been fined USD 56,400 after fans set off smoke bombs and flares during its last World Cup group match against Russia.

    A lot of thanks for your wonderful relentless service. I am a regular reader of your site and also cracked IBPS PO 3 and Clerk 3 and allotted in Bank of Baroda PO and PNB Clerical with your help.
    Now I'm preparing for upcoming RBI Grade B officers Exam which has been scheduled on 2nd Aug,2014. If you please upload quick reference guide for this exam giving stress on Economy, I shall be highly obliged.
