SBI Clerks General Awareness : Topics and Preparation Plan

Friends, as a number of SBI Clerks aspirants have been asking us about the preparation strategy of SBI Clerks Online Exam 2014, we've decided to post section wise analysis of topics. Today we shall discuss about the General Awareness section. The General Awareness section is fate changer for almost all banking exams. This is because, generally we tend to focus more on reasoning and aptitude sections as we feel these are the difficult sections in the exam. If we get any additional time, we spend it on English section. We totally neglect the General Awareness section because we FEEL that it is easy. When the exam date approaches, we hurriedly refer to three or four monthly magazines of current affairs. In result, we often end up getting minimum qualifying marks in this section even though we manage to get good marks in other sections. So, don't neglect this section and try to spend at least an hour per day from the very first day of your preparation.

General Awareness for SBI Clerks 2014

The General Awareness section of SBI Clerks is of 40 questions and will carry you 40 marks. Luckily the GA section for SBI Clerks is very easy when compared to other banking exams' GA Sections. This is because, almost all the questions (approximately 93%) are from the current affairs of last six months. So, if you prepare in a proper manner, you can easily grab your 40 marks without losing any.

SBI Clerks General Awareness Topics to prepare - An Analysis

As we've clearly mentioned in our SBI Clerks Online Exam Syllabus 2014 you should prepare topics like, People and Places in News, Sports, Politics, Economy, Science & Technology, Awards & Honors, Books & Authors, Important Committees, Important Movies (award winners, controversial and attention grabbers). 6 months current affairs prior to the exam date are enough to prepare.

Now another question arises. How many marks can I get from each topic ? To answer this question, we have analysed the previous papers of SBI Clerks and made an analysis on topic wise marks for upcoming SBI Clerical exam 2014. Below chart shows you the topic wise distribution of questions asked from previous sbi clerks exams. This chart will help you in getting the basic idea of the mark distribution and will help you to prepare in a proper order. All the best.

Update : Based on the reviews of SBI Clerks Online Exam held on 19th July 2014,  There are questions from Banking Awareness too (approx 10 to 15 questions). So if you have time, then read Banking Awareness from Here

Important point to Note :  Apart from above mentioned topics, this time you should focus on the following topics too
  • General Elections,
  • Interim Budget 2014-15 Highlights
  • New Ministers and their portfolios,
  • Telangana state etc.

How to Prepare ?

Well, now you have got a detailed idea on what to prepare. Now let's have a look at the preparation process. Better don't stick to any specific source / magazine for your preparation. Gather information from various sources. As we've stated in our Bank exam preparation plan, its better to make your own notes for Current Affairs. You can depend on any national daily like THE HINDU or The Times of India to make your CA notes. If you have any problem with them then you can go with any local language news paper. Read the news paper completely. Write the date in the notebook as the main heading. Make some sub headings like International Events, National Events, Economy, Sports, People in News etc. Have a look at this post for the basic idea (we made it from the Hindu). Don't copy the news paper as it is, just 2 or 3 important lines are enough. Try to highlight if there are any names or numerical values (like dates, currencies etc). And don't write everything you see in the news paper. They wont ask you about silly things like Politicians' affairs, Bollywood heroines' daughters and Cricketer's  ankle pains the topics which the news papers publish as  their main headlines. Just ask yourself a question "Is it going to be appear in the exam?", if you feel YES, then write it. If you feel no then don't write. Make your own lists of Awards, New Appointments, Deaths etc. Try to spend atleast 1 hour per day for General Awareness. Be focused while preparing these notes, so that there is no need to read them again.
