National

  • In a move to enhance India’s under water fare abilities, INS Kalmat was launched at Kolkata. Its equipped with indigenously developed state of art weapons and sensors and is built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE). Kalmat is name of an island in Andaman & Nicobar archipelago.
  • In an initiative to bring down fatalities in road accidents, Minstry of road transport and highways signed an MoU with ICICI Lombard to jointly launch a pilot project that provides cashless treatment to road accident victims. Pilot project will be launched on Delhi-Gurgaon-Jaipur route by end of May.
  • Italy’s foreign minister, GiulioTerzi resigned from his office in a move against to the government’s decision to send marines to India. They’re charged in a case against killing of two fishermen off Kerala coast last year.

International

  • Arab League Summit, opened in Qatar on Tuesday, was for the first time attended by Syrian rebels led by Mouaz al Khatib. Syria was suspended from the league in 2011 against to Bashar al Assad regime’s crack down on opponents.
  • Yao Tandong, director of Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research claimed that pollutants from south Asia is responsible for the melt down of glaciers in Tibet.
  • BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) agreed to setup BRICS bank. But, countries have divergent views on the location of the bank. It’s the third meeting of five major emerging powers at Durban.

Economy

  • Market regulator SEBI summoned Subrata Roy and promoters of Sahara group to ascertain the details of their assets.
  • SEBI tightened takeover norms and said no open offer should be withdrawn on the basis that it’s not successful.
  • L&T signed an agreement with Italy’s Generali group and Kishore Biyani’s Future Group to merge it’s L&T General Insurance with Future Generali India Insurance.

Sports

  • Sri Lankan cricket players were withdrawn from IPL matches that’ll be played in Chennai.  After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s letter to the PM, IPL general council took the decision as she told that it’ll aggravate the situation in the state.

    1. your main focus should be from April to October 1st week Mani. If you have enough time then better to read important details like awards, deaths, new appointments, people in news etc from january.
