  • European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso warned that it would be "difficult, if not impossible" for an independent Scotland to join the European Union.
  • British-Indian businessman Ranji Boparan, known as the "chicken king", is set to axe around 1,800 jobs in the UK as part of a major restructuring of his food business empire.
  • Pakistani authorities have stopped issuing "No-Objection Certificates" for the screening of Indian films, holding up the release of new movies like 'Gunday' and 'Hasee Toh Phasee'.

  • In one of the world's largest all-women religious gatherings, thousands of devotees performed the 'Pongala' ritual of the famed Attukal Bhagavathy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

  • The notorious pro-Assad hacker group known as the Syrian Electronic Army has reportedly published a database that it says contains login credentials for 1 million users of business publication Forbes.com.
  • Following the removal of the Flappy Bird app from online stores by its creator Dong Nguyen, Apple and Google are having a rough time turning down gamers, mimicking the popular game by adding "Flappy" to their creations.
  • Historical evidence of biological weapons research during Nazi Germany has confirmed that Nazis wanted to use mosquitoes  which host malaria in biological warfare.
  • scientists say that next Nasa rover to Mars or another planet may be quipped with a new "do-it-all" camera that can identify, photograph and even analyse patches of soil or rocks close up and far away.

  • The biggest event of card games comes to India as the country will host the next World Bridge Championship for Bermuda Bowl (men) and Venice Cup (women) in October 2015.
  • India completed its return to the Olympic family  when its flag was hoisted at the Sochi Games, five days after the International Olympic Committee lifted its suspension on the Southeast Asian nation.
  • Sri Lanka and South Africa progressed to the quarter-finals of the ICC Under 19 World Cup after recording contrasting victories in Dubai.
  • New Zealand score 252 for five against India in their second innings Mc Cullum hits a ton.
  • South Africa entered their Test series against Australia as undisputed world champions in the five-day form of the game.
