International Affairs

  • Food Security scheme for poor families launched in Nagpur.The central government has introduced the scheme for the benefit of poor section of the society and each poor family should get and take benefit of it.
  • Mizoram Law Minister Lalsawta said that the state government was making efforts to meet the deadline of establishing Lokayukta before February 28.
  • President Pranab Mukherjee will launch the National Mission on Libraries (NML), an initiative of the culture ministry to modernise and digitally link public libraries across the country.
  • The Delhi cabinet cleared the final draft of the Jan Lokpal bill.
  • Former President APJ Abdul Kalam inaugurateD the Children’s Science Congress at University of Jammu.

  • Congress leader Harish Rawat sworn in as Uttarakhand's eighth Chief Minister.
  • Janet Yellen has been sworn in to succeed Ben Bernanke, becoming the first woman to lead the Federal Reserve in its 100-year history.
Deaths
  • Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman found dead in his New York apartment. He was 46.
Sports
  • Virat Kohli slipped a rung but was still the best-placed Indian batsman at fourth in the latest ICC Twenty20 rankings,followed by Suresh Raina at 5th and Yuvraj Singh at 6th.
