International Affairs
  • King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is paying a state visit to India February 18-20, during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on bilateral, regional and global issues.
  • Tehran's interior minister has warned Pakistan that Iranian forces may enter Pakistani and Afghan territory to released border guards seized by a rebel group.

  • Rahul Gandhi, who had given a push to the 'one-rank, one-pension' demand of ex-servicemen, hailed as "historic" the government's decision to accept the long-standing plea with P Chidambaram making an announcement on the issue in the interim budget.
  • The population of migratory water birds has been decreasing in India every year and their migratory pattern has also seen a change due to global climate changes, a census has revealed.

  • Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said low-cost tablet PC Aakash 4 will be available in the market in around one and a half months for Rs 3,999.
  • Samsung has launched a mid-range Android smartphone, the Galaxy Core Advance, in South Korea at 410,300 won. Galaxy Core Advance features a 4.7-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480 X 800pixels.
  • Scientists have for the first time identified a process by which the older muscle stem cell populations can be rejuvenated to function like younger cells.
Sports
  • New Zealand extends their lead with a double century from Brendon McCullum against India in the second innings of the Wellington Cricket Test.
  • The Indian flag was unfurled at the Winter Olympics Village at Sochi in a special ceremony, after the International Olympic Committee, IOC revoked a 14-month suspension on the country.
