Important Points you should know about the New RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan

Friends, as all of you know that, being the Central Bank for India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plays a vital role in Indian banking operations. All banking operations directly or inderectly will be dependent on RBI only. So you will get at least a question  RBI in your banking exams. Yesterday RBI got a new governor (Date : 4th September 2013 - Wednesday). Mr. Raghu Ram Rajan has been appointed as the Nwe governor of RBI for a period of three years, and will take charge from the old governor D. Subbarao, who is exiting after an extended five-year term. So maximum chances are there for getting  a question about Mr. Raghu Ram Rajan in your upcoming IBPS Bank exams. So, here are some important points you should know about him. Happy Reading :)
  • He is the 23rd governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
  • He did his bachelor's in electrical engineering from IIT-Delhi, his MBA ifrom the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM A), followed by a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a gold medalist at both IIT and IIM.
  • He is of 50 years and is from Bhopal, India.
  • He formerly served as the president of the American Finance Association and also worked as the chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).  He was also appointed as the Chief Economic Adviser to the
  • Finance Ministry in August last year.
  • He is the author of the popular book Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy, where he has argued that serious flaws in the economy are to blame for the current economic crisis, and warns that a potentially more devastating crisis awaits us if they aren't fixed.
  • He was honored with Fischer Black Prize in 2003 and Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award in 2010. 
  • He is the 2nd youngest governor of RBI. 
  • He joins the RBI when India is facing one of its most challenging times in years.

    1. Dr Manmohan Singh. He was just 10 days short of 50 when he became the RBI governor in 1982.
