How to Manage time in SBI PO Exam 2014 ?

The SBI PO exam is of 250 marks (200 for Objective and 50 for Descriptive). No need to bother about the Descriptive Paper's time management. As you will get enough time to answer that paper. So, in this post we will mainly focus on the Objective Test. For objective test there will be 200 Questions and you should solve these questions in 120 minutes. So,  200 questions in 2 hours (120 minutes) come out to be 36 Seconds per question. It may seem daunting but its not the end of the worlds since we aren't attempting every question. If you can attempt 165 to 175 questions (180 is excellent) with 90 percent accuracy, you've done a good job.And important point to note is, this time the exam is going to be online. So you should try avoiding pen and paper during the practice.

So, as soon as you are told to start answering, we would recommend starting with the General Awareness / Marketing Aptitude / Computer knowledge because there wont be much to think or solve in this section. Just see the question and mark the answer. Attempt as many questions as you can in this section (only if you are sure of the answer) but you should be able to complete this section in 20 minutes (25 minutes in worst case).

The next section to go for would be English. In English section generally first 10 questions in it will be that of comprehension passage. So we would recommend leaving that part of the questions as the rest of the section is pretty basic English which is very easy. Again you should be able to complete this section in 20 to 25 minutes

So, we've done with 2 sections in 40 to 50 minutes and left with another 100 questions which should be done in 70 - 80 minutes.

Depending upon your strength, go for either Reasoning or Quantitative Aptitude but remember to solve the easiest questions First (this will be the deciding factor). Anything that requires serious calculations in Quantitative Aptitude (DI) or serious thinking in Reasoning should be left behind at first and come back to it if time permits at the end. For example, questions on Puzzles and Circular Arrangement in Reasoning and Compound Interest calculations in Quantitative Aptitude could be avoided ( A Small Clarification : Many of us has a blind belief that in Data Interpretation they wont ask questions from basic maths topics like Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Probability, Speed and Distance etc.. But remember friends, Data Interpretation doesn't contain only bars and graphs. They may give the data of Simple Interest or Probability and ask some interrelated  questions on that. So its advisable to concentrate on all areas).

From the feedback given by many test takers, what we found is that the Data Interpretation part in Quantitative Aptitude will be an important part in the test which is also very easiest part. Most of the question in it could be solved with out even using your pen. So work hard our basic maths speed improvement techniques so that you can easily improve your calculation speed and can solve simple problems with a single glance.

Coming to the time for these 2 sections, 50 questions in Quantitative Aptitude (or all that you could solve) should be completed in 35-40 minutes which leaves out 40-45 minutes to solve 50 questions in reasoning. It may sound silly... 35 to 40 minutes for Data Interpretation and 40 to 45 minutes for Reasoning... Well, the reason behind this is... you can easily solve DI Problems with little practice. But in reasoning section, you should think twice before marking your answer. And usually people pay less attention on Non - Verbal Reasoning. But its advisable that not to neglect this area as there would be at least  10 questions from it. Dont you think 10 marks are enough to decide your chances???

All said and done, you should have at least 5 minutes at the last which you could either use to solve the Reading Comprehension in English or the arrangement questions in Reasoning.

Hope it Helps.. All the best :)

  5. I think 36 Seconds per question. Not 1.6 Minutes per Question.
    (120*60)/200= 36

    Or

    200/120= 1.6 Questions per minute

    Please correct it.
