Mascots :
The Mascots of London 2012 Olympic Games are
Wenlock and Mandiville - creatures supposedly fashioned from droplets of steel
used to build the stadium. With a metallic finish, a single large eye made out
of a camera lens, a London taxi light on their heads and the Olympic rings
represented as friendship bracelets on their wrists, they resemble characters
dreamed up for a Pixar animation.

There are 10820 athlets from 204 Nations
participated for London Olympics.
The Opening Ceremony :
The London 2012 Olympics Officially opened by
Queen Elizabeth II at 9pm on 27th July (Friday). The Ceremony welcomed the
finest athletes from more than 200 nations for the start of the London 2012
Olympic Games, marking an historic third time the capital has hosted the world’s
biggest and most important sporting event. Actor Daniel Craig, who has played
the fictional spy 007 James Bond in films, was shown in a video accompanying
the Queen from Buckingham Palace into a waiting helicopter and then taking her
to the Stadium.
There was also a touch of British humour in the
form of Rowan Atkinson who regaled the audience with his famous "Mr
Bean" comic act. The entire event
directed by the Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle. This event was called as
“Isles of Wonder”. Its also called as the “Most Embarrasing Opening
ceremony” by the Forbes. Flag bearer for
India in the Opening Ceremony is Sushil Kumar.
First First First :
- The
first Gold Medal of London 2012 Olympics was won by Yi Siling of China won the
first gold medal of London 2012 in the women's 10m Air Rifle Category.
- First
world record in London 2012 Olympics was set by Dong-hyun The 26 year-old in
the Individual Archery, who hails from Chungbuk was a Legally Blind. He
broke his own 72-arrow mark of 696 by
three points and was also part of a record in the team shoot.
- Gagan
Narang won the first medal to India (bronze) in the men’s 10 metre air rifle
event.

Mystery woman clouds India's march at Olympics
The presence of an unidentified lady beside flag-bearer Sushil Kumar in the Indian contingent during the opening ceremony of the Olympics has prompted the country's miffed officials to take up the issue with the Games organisers. Latter officials declared that she is Madhura Nagendra, who hailed from Bangalore, was pursuing her post-graduate studies in the UK. She had enrolled as a volunteer for the Games. But no idea how she managed to obtain the pass!!! She later apologised for her "mistake" prompted by her excitement.
Shot put winner Ostapchuk lost Gold for doping
Belarus' Nadzeya Ostapchuk was stripped of the women's shot put gold medal at the London Games after she failed a drug test
India in the London Olympics 2012 :
There were total of 83 athletes participated from India for 13 Events. India has won 6 medals in London Olympics 2012 (2 silver and 4 bronze). Sushil Kumar was the flag bearer in the opening ceremony and Mary Kom was the flag bearer at the closing ceremony. Narang wins India's first medal (bronze) in 10m air rifle event in London Olympics.
Gagan’s score in the final round — 10.7, 9.7, 10.6, 10.7, 10.4, 10.6,
9.9, 9.5, 10.3, 10.7 (no need to remember all these numbers, we are
giving them for the information's sake). Narang,
a two-time world record setter, had won four gold medals in the 2010
Delhi Commonwealth Games and followed that up with two silver in the

Vijay Kumar (The Second Medal Winner - Silver - Pistol Event)
Vijay Kumar won 2nd Medal (Silver) in Pistol event. The Arjuna awardee of the year 2007, Vijay Kumar won Second Olympic medal (Silver) Medal for India in Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Event on August 3 2012 (Friday). He was a Multiple Commonwealth Games Gold medallist and earned Olympic
quota place when he clinched the silver medal at the shooting World Cup
in Fort Benning, US in May, 2011. It was his second silver
at the shooting World Cups after clinching it before at Beijing in
2009. He came to limelight after he won an impressive three gold medals

Saina Nehwal (The Third Medal Winner - Bronze - Badminton)
Saina Nehwal won the 3rd Medal (Bronze) in Badminton. The Hyderabad badminton player Saina Nehwal won Bronze medal in Women's Singles Badminton event on today ie 4th August 2012 (Saturday). She won bronze medal after world No. 2 China's Wang Xin retires due to injury in the play off at London Olympics on Saturday.She is the

Mary Kom (The Fourth Medal Winner - Bronze - Boxing)
Mary Kom won the 4rd Medal (Bronze) in Boxing. The Manipuri based Indian boxer, took bronze at the London Olympics 2012 on Wednesday (Date : August 8th 2012) after bowing out in semi-finals.
She went down to Great Britain's Nicola Adams (second seed) in the
women's 51kg semi-finals and will receive a bronze medal. She is a
five-time world champion and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in
each one of the six world championships. She
is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer
Olympics, competing in the 51 kg category, where she is currently ranked

Yougeshwar Dutt (The Fifth Medal Winner - Bronze - Wrestling)
Yougeshwar Dutt
won the 5th Medal (Bronze) in Wrestling. He is from Sonepat in Haryana.
The 29-year-old experienced grappler showed tremendous fighting spirit
and exhibited excellent technique against three very strong rivals in
the repechage rounds to clinch India's Fifth Medal of the Games.
Important Note : This is (bronze) India's third wrestling medal in the Olympic history after Khashaba Jadhav's bronze in 1952 at Helsinki and Sushil Kumar's similar feat four years ago in Beijing.

Sushil Kumar (The Sixth Medal Winner - Silver - Wrestling)
Sushil Kumar won the 6th Medal (Silver) in Wrestling. He has won Silver Medal in the Men's Wrestling - 66 kg Freestyle event of London Olympics on Sunday (Date : August 12 2012). He lost the Olympic gold to Japan's Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu. So, Kumar will come home with a silver Medal. (Read complete story Here.)
