Dhirubhai Ambani
Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani, popularly known as Dhirubhai Ambani was one India's greatest visionaries and iconic business tycoons. He was the founder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) which is now ranked among the world's top 500 companies in term of the revenue it generates. Dhirubhai's rags-to-riches story remains one of the most amazing stories of corporate India and is an inspiration to the youth of our nation. 

Dhirubhai was born on 28th December, 1932, into a Modh Baniya family, in Chorward village in the district of Junagarh, Gujarat. Father Hirachand Govardhandas Ambani was a school teacher and mother Jamnaben was a home maker. Dhirubhai has four siblings, Trilochanben, Ramnikbhai, Jasuben and Nathubhai. Dhirubhai had little interest in formal education.

International Current Affairs
  • International Workers' Day, also called Labour Day or May Day, is being observed today.
    • This day is celebrated on May 1st every year to commemorate the struggles of working people throughout the world. 
    • May Day originated in late 19th century when labour movement to gain the 8-hour work day began.
  • European Union leaders have promised to embrace the British province of Northern Ireland after Brexit if it ever unites with Ireland.
  • India will give Rs. 35 crore rupees to children of freedom fighters in Bangladesh under the new ‘Muktijodha scholarship’ scheme in the next five years.
    • Under the scheme, students at higher secondary level will get a one-time grant of Tk 20,000 (Rs 15,370) and students at the undergraduate level will get a grant of Tk 50,000 (Rs 38,430).
National Current Affairs
  • Maharashtra today became the first state to install first-of-its-kind automated weather stations for farmers in the region.
    • The state government aims to install a total of 2,065 such units at the village/mandal level across Maharashtra.
