International Current Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). 
    • He discussed a range of bilateral issues with both leaders. 
    • Note : India, Russia and China will hold a trilateral meet on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
  • The Heads of Member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have resolutely condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
    • In the meeting held at Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan today, they urged the international community to strengthen global cooperation in efforts against terrorism without politicization and double standards and also to press for consensus regarding the adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. 
    • A joint-declaration to this effect was also issued at this juncture.
    • In his address, PM Modi called for the united efforts from the global community to eliminate the terrorism from its root.
    • He said that all humanitarian forces should have to unite to counter terrorism. 
    • He said that nations supporting, promoting and funding terrorism should be held responsible and made accountable for their actions.
  • PM Narendra Modi and Kyrgyzstan President Jeenbekov jointly inaugurated Indian-Kyrgyz  Business forum
    • The two leaders also asked their business communities to explore the untapped potential for deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.
  • India's rank slipped five places to 141 among 163 countries on the Global Peace Index 2019, while Iceland topped the index, a position it has held since 2008. 
    • Australian think tank Institute for Economics & Peace ranks countries based on the level of societal safety and security, the extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict, and the degree of militarisation.

  • External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, will attend the two days 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, CICA, Summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, from today.
    • CICA is a pan-Asia forum for enhancing cooperation and promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
    • During the Summit, CICA Leaders are likely to deliberate on the existing and emerging issues of common concern to the members and underline implementation of confidence-building measures for developing Asia into a prosperous, secure and peaceful region.
    • Note : India is a member of CICA since its inception and late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had participated in the first CICA Summit held in 2002 in Almaty. 
    • Theme of the 5th Summit : "Shared Vision for a Secure and More Prosperous CICA Region". 
National Current Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the 5th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog on 15th of this month at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
    • The meeting will be attended by Defence Minister, Home Minister, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister, Agriculture Minister, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister as ex-officio members.
    • The agenda before the Meeting include rain-water harvesting, drought situation and relief measures, aspirational districts programme, transforming agriculture, and security-related issues with a specific focus on Left Wing Extremism districts.
  • The nation will celebrate this year the 20th anniversary of victory in Kargil war with pride, honour and inspiration.
    • The Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations will be spread over three days from 25th to 27th of July at Dras and New Delhi.
  • Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri today said that the government will achieve the target of Housing for All by early 2020 instead of its earlier set target of 2022.
    • Mr Puri said, 83 lakh houses were already sanctioned when Lok Sabha elections were announced.
  • Farmers will have to contribute 100 rupees per month under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana that seeks to provide a minimum fixed monthly pension of  3,000 rupees on the attainment of 60 years.
    • The central government will also contribute an equal amount to the pension fund to be managed by the LIC, which will be responsible for the pension payout. 
Science & Technology
  • Microsoft announced the launch of AI Digital Labs in collaboration with 10 higher educational institutions in the country. 
    • The institutes covered under this program include BITS Pilani, ISB, SRM University, among others. 
    • As part of the three-year program, Microsoft will support selected institutions with infrastructure, curriculum and content, access to cloud and AI services and developer support.
  • A team of Tribhuvan University and National Geographic Society scientists and researchers have installed the world's highest, fully automated weather stations atop Mount Everest
    • Total 5 weather stations, including one at a record height of 27,657 feet, were installed on the Earth's highest mountain above sea level. 
    • The team also collected ice core samples from the highest point ever.
MOUs & Agreements
  • Directorate General of Training under the aegis of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry has joined hands with Cisco and Accenture to skill the youth for the digital economy through its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
    • Nearly 15 lakh students across all the ITIs in India can access the digital learning module via the Bharat Skills portal
    • This programme will equip students enrolled in ITIs across India with skills for the digital economy over the next two years. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Venezuela is releasing new banknotes for the second time in less than a year as hyperinflation erases the currency's value. 
    • Banknotes of 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 bolívar denominations will begin circulating on June 13 in the South American nation. 
    • The largest of those banknotes, equivalent to about ₹560, is more than the minimum wage of 40,000 bolívars a month.
  • French-US engine-maker CFM International has won one of the world's largest jet engine orders, with a deal for over 600 engines, from IndiGo
    • CFM, which was competing with IndiGo's existing supplier Pratt & Whitney, will provide power for 280 A320-family jetliners already on order from Airbus by the Delhi-based carrier. 
  • The government has reduced the total rate of contribution towards the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme from 6.5% to 4% for the first time since 1997. 
    • Effective July 1, the employer's share will be 3.25% while the employee's share will be 0.75%. 
    • The move is expected to benefit 3.6 crore employees and 12.85 lakh employers.
  • Yes Bank lost its place in the list of India's ten most-valued lenders after its shares fell 13%. 
    • With a market cap of ₹27,154 crore, the private lender now ranks 13th and has been replaced in the top ten by Bank of India

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping was conferred with Manas Order of the First Degree (highest national award of Kyrgyzstan) in Bishkek (capital of Kyrgyzstan). 
Sports Current Affairs
  • Ex-world number one and three-time Olympic silver medallist Lee Chong Wei announced his retirement from badminton. 
    • Wei, who fought nose cancer, revealed he is quitting over risk of its recurrence.
