Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Terror timeline: on FATF advisory to Pakistan"
  • Timeline - a plan of when something should happen or how much time something should take
  • Advisory - for the purpose of giving advice
  • Task Force - a group of people chosen to deal with a particular problem or situation
  • Mounting - increasing, especially in a way that makes a situation worse
  • Lax - not paying enough attention to rules, or not caring enough about quality or safety
  • Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
  • Watchdog - a person or organization that works to stop people from doing illegal things in a particular area of business or society
  • Uncertain - not clearly known or understood
  • Convoy - a group of vehicles or ships travelling together, often with other vehicles or ships providing protection for them
  • Personnel - the people who work for a company or organization, or who are members of a military force
  • Pose - to cause something, especially a problem or difficulty
  • Compliance - the practice of obeying a law, rule, or request
  • Black-list - to keep a record of someone you do not approve of and prevent them from making progress in some way
  • Scrutiny - careful examination of someone or something
  • Sanction - an official order to stop communication, trade, etc with a country that has broken international law
  • Downgrade - to treat something in a way that shows that you think it is now less important than it was
  • Acute - very serious or severe
  • Crisis - an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Can ill afford - used for saying that someone should definitely not do something because it will cause problems
  • Stern - a stern person, expression, or statement is serious and severe
  • Crack down - to start dealing with someone or something much more strictly
  • Oblige - to force someone to do something because it is the law, a rule, or a duty
  • Ensure - to make certain that something happens or is done
  • Weaponry - weapons in general, or all the weapons that a country or army has
  • Plenary - a plenary meeting is intended for all the people in a particular group
  • Double down - increase one's efforts or focus
  • Take over - to take control of something
  • Opportunism - the actions of someone who takes every opportunity to gain an advantage and is willing to behave in an unfair way
  • Propaganda - information, especially false information, that a government or organization spreads in order to influence people’s opinions and beliefs
  • Repercussion - a bad effect that something has, usually lasting for a long time

  • Safety net - a plan or system that is designed to protect people or prevent serious problems
  • Unregulated - not controlled by a government or other official organization
  • Affluent - rich enough to buy things for pleasure
  • Promulgate - to make an idea or belief known to as many people as possible
  • Ordinance - an official order by a government, king, queen etc
  • Repository - a place where large quantities of things are stored or kept safe
  • Compensation - money that someone receives because something bad has happened to them
  • Victim - someone who has been harmed, injured, or killed as the result of a crime
  • Liquidation - a situation in which a business closes and sells everything it owns in order to pay money that it owes
  • Shadow banking - lending and other financial activities conducted by unregulated institutions or under unregulated conditions
  • Purview - the area of responsibility or influence that a person or organization has
  • Miscreant - someone who does something wrong or commits a crime
  • Swindle - to cheat someone in order to get their money
  • Heinous - a heinous act or crime is extremely evil
  • Curb - to control or limit something that is harmful
  • Inadequate - not enough, or not good enough for a particular purpose
  • Commendable - deserving praise or admiration
  • Eventually - at the end of a process or period of time in which many things happen
  • Bureaucrat - someone who is employed to help run an office or government department
  • Household - the people who live in a house or flat when they are considered as a single unit
  • Cahoots - secretly involved with someone in a dishonest activity or plan
  • Fraudulent - made with the intention of tricking someone, especially illegally
  • Hard-earned - earned or achieved only after a lot of effort
  • Legitimacy - the fact that something is legal
  • Dissuade - to persuade someone not to do something
  • Due diligence - he process of carefully examining something or someone
  • Illicit - an illicit relationship, activity, or situation is one that people do not approve of
