International Current Affairs
  • On the second day of his three-day visit to Australia, President Ram Nath Kovind unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parramatta town in the presence of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison
    • The statue, which is designed by Indian sculptors Ram and Anil Sutar, is a gift from the Indian government.
  • The Centre has cleared the building of Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur to the International Border to provide pilgrims easy access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. 
    • This comes ahead of Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary next year.
  • 27th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change was held in New Delhi.
    • The meeting was chaired by Dr Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India and attended by Edson Duarte, Minister of the Environment of Brazil, Xie Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China, Dr Tsakani Ngomane, Deputy Director General for Climate Change, Air Quality and Sustainable Development, Department of Environmental Affairs of South Arica.

National Current Affairs
  • 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) began in Panaji (Goa). 
    • Theme of IFFI 2018 : New India through a variety of genres of cinema, including history, action, romance and sports
    • Jharkhand is focus state for this year, with Jharkhand Day being celebrated on 24th November as part of festival.
    • Israel is the focus country for this year.
    • This edition of the festival will showcase 212 films from over 68 countries which reflects diversity of taste.
    • This year as extension of Khelo India Branding, Indian Sports Biopics will also be screened including Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and MSD: The untold story. 
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of a Medical college at Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
  • The annual Sangai Festival was celebrated in northeastern state of Manipur
    • It was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
    • It is grandest festival of state named after state animal, Sangai (critically endangered brow-antlered deer) found only in Manipur. 
    • Aim of Sangai Festiavl : To promote Manipur as world class tourism destination.
  • To give land rights to enclave dwellers in north Bengal, the West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed West Bengal Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2018
    • The bill will end era of uncertain future for the people residing in those enclaves as it will help them to get full-fledged status as citizens of India, along with all civic amenities and rights.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi constituted National Implementation Committee (NIC) to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak in the country and abroad.

Science & Technology
  • Morocco successfully launched its second earth observation satellite named Mohammed VI-B on board of Arianespace Vega rocket from launch pad at Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana in South America.  
    • It will be placed at same orbit as its twin satellite Mohammed 6-A, the first Moroccan satellite launched in November 2017 also on Vega rocket. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Reliance Jio will replace Airtel as the telecom service provider for Indian Railways from 1st January 2018, after it emerged as the lowest bidder. 
    • Railways has been using Airtel for over six years as its service provider for 1.95 lakh connections used by its employees in the Closed User Group. 
    • Jio will serve 3.78 lakh railway personnel.
  • Walmart, which bought a 77% stake in Flipkart for $16 billion in May, has increased its stake in Flipkart to 81.3%.
    • The $2 billion in equity funding Walmart had announced at the time of the acquisition likely contributed to its increased shareholding. 
  • Indian Army has picked Russia’s Igla-S missile system as choice for its multibillion dollar contract for MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems (MANPADS)
    • Igla-S bid around $1.47 billion from Russia’s Rosoboronexport had emerged lowest bidder for Indian Army’s Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) deal. 
Deaths
  • Former MP and writer Baishnab Parida (77) passed away.
    • Parida began his political career with the Communist Party of India but later left the party.
    • He later held different positions in various political parties, including Congress, Samajwadi Party and Biju Janata Dal.
Awards & Honors
  • United Nations Environment Program has selected Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and its enforcement officer RS Sharath for 2018 Asia Environmental Enforcement Awards
    • They were selected under organization and individual categories respectively for their outstanding contributions in combating the trans-boundary environmental crimes.
  • Mexican government has honoured Indian academician Shyama Prasad Ganguly with “Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca” (Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle) for the year 2018.
    • This is the highest civilian honour given to a foreigner by Mexico
    • Ganguly was honored with this award for disseminating Spanish language and Mexican culture to strengthen Mexico-India cultural relations
    • Note : He is first Indian Academician to get this award.
  • Filmmaker Nandita Das to be honoured with the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) Award at 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane on 29th November.
MOUs & Agreements
  • IIM Calcutta Innovation Park and Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for energising start-up ecosystem in East and Northeast India
    • The MoU will bring incubator and industry toghether in more formal way. 
    • Note : IIM Innovation Park is currently incubating 40 start-ups with almost half from West Bengal.

New Appointments
  • Tanzanian national Joyce Msuya was appointed as acting Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) following resignation of the executive director Erik Solheim. 
    • Solheim had quit in wake of internal audit report accused him of gobbling up $500,000 in unnecessary and budgeted travel expenses in just 22 months.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Boxer Mary Kom defeated North Korea's Kim Hyang-Mi in the semi-finals of the 48-kg event to reach the final of the AIBA World Women's Boxing Championships for the seventh time. 
    • Kom will take on Hanna Okhota (Ukraine) in the finals on Saturday.
