International Current Affairs
  • Today (19th November) is International Men's Day.
    • The aim of International Men’s Day is to celebrate positive male role models and to raise awareness of men’s issues.
    • Theme for International Men's Day 2018 : 'Positive Male Role Models'.
  • Today (19th November) is World Toilet Day.
    • This day is observed by the United Nations to raise awareness about all people who do not have acess to a toilet - despite it is their basic right.
    • Note : 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to proper sanitation.
    • Theme of World Toilet Day 2018 : 'When nature calls'.
National Current Affairs
    • 19th November is National Integration Day.
      • This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of the India, Indira Gandhi. 
      • She played a major role in strengthening the Indian democratic structure and tradition. 
      • She handled the war of 1971 against Pakistan and won it.
    • Qaumi Ekta Week (Communal Harmony Week) is being observed across India from today.
      • Aim of Quami Ekta Week : To foster and reinforce the spirit of communal harmony and national integration. 
      • The observation of the week will help to highlight the inherent strength and resilience of the nation to withstand actual and potential threats to the eclectic and secular fabric of the country. 
      • Important Days which are being observed during this week are :
        • 19th November - National Integration Day, 
        • 20th November - Welfare of Minorities Day, 
        • 21st November - Linguistic Harmony Day 
        • 22nd Novevmber - Weaker Sections Day
        • 23rd November - Cultural Unity Day

    • Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis-led government today passed the Maratha Reservation Bill and created a new category titled SEBC (Socially and Economically Backward Category) as per the recommendation of Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission. 
      • The Bill will likely be tabled during the Winter Parliament Session of the Legislative Assembly. 
    • The 14th edition of JashneBachpan, a theatre festival for children is being held in New Delhi. 
      • The nine-day theatre festival will see 21 productions from India and three foreign groups including Sri Lanka (non-verbal), Switzerland (English) and Indonesia (Javanese).
    • The Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway, also known as Western Peripheral Expressway, became fully operational after PM Narendra Modi inaugurated its Kundli-Manesar stretch in Gurugram. 
      • It'll bring down travel time from Sonipat to Manesar to about 45 minutes. 
      • Along with Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the six-lane expressway is expected to divert over 50,000 heavy vehicles away from Delhi.
    • Punjab became 3rd state in the country after Maharashtra and Gujarat  to ban Hookah bars or lounges.
    Awards & Honors
    • Eminent Indian classical sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was honored with ‘Sumitra Charat Ram Award for Lifetime Achievement’ at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi for his immense contribution to the enrichment and promotion of Indian Classical Music.
      • Best known for his clear and fast 'ekhara taans', Khan was born in 1945 in Gwalior. 
      • He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan (2001), and is among the tallest Indian classical musicians.
    Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel has convened a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank today (19th November 2018).
      • Some of the important issues to be discussed in the meeting are Liquidity for NBFCs, credit for MSMEs and new economic capital framework. 
      • The board meets once in every six months and nearly once in every quarter. 
      • The Board generally meets in different states in a year.

    New Appointments
    • 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra has been appointed as full-time Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED)
      • He is going to replace Karnal Singh, who retired from the agency after an over three year tenure as the ED director in both additional and regular capacities.
    • Indian electronic commerce company, Flipkart has appointed Smriti Singh as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), a position which has been vacant for the past 18 months. 
      • Earlier, she has worked as the Vice President and the HR head for Sony Pictures Networks India.
    • Stephen Barclay, Junior Health Minister who voted to leave European Union in the 2016 referendum has been appointed as the new Brexit Secretary by British Prime Minister Theresa May.  
      • Mr. Barclay replaced Dominic Raab who resigned over Theresa May’s draft plan for leaving EU.
    Sports Current Affairs
    • Music composer A R Rahman is making the Anthem for upcoming released the promo video of the Hockey World Cup 2018.
      • This anthem features Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. 
      • The lyrics of this video are penned by Bollywood lyricist Gulzar.
      • The heme track titled "Jai Hind, Jai India". 
      • Important Points to Note :
        • The 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup 2018 will be held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar (India) from 28th November to 16th December 2018.
        • This is the 3rd time India is hosting the event after the Mumbai (1982) and the New Delhi (2010) editions.
    • India’s Lakshya Sen won a Bronze medal in the BWF World junior badminton championship at Markham, Canada. 
      • He was defeated by Vitidsarn (Thailand)
