International Current Affairs
  • India has called off the meeting of the Indian and Pakistani Foreign Ministers scheduled in New York a day after announcing it. 
    • The meeting was proposed by Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan but was cancelled in protest against the killing of policemen in Kashmir, the mutilation of a BSF jawan's body and issuance of Burhan Wani stamps by Pakistan.
  • Pakistan has invited Saudi Arabia to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the 3rd strategic partner.
    • Note : CPEC, a part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, aims to link Pakistan's Gwadar port with China's Xinjiang.  
  • Amid a rise in rape cases, Nepal has announced a ban on websites with adult content in the country. 
    • Such websites promote sexual violence and perversion, the government said.  
National Current Affairs
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today announced that the state ranks 1st in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
    • He said that the state has been successful in providing houses to 11 lakh poor families. 
    • In urban areas, this scheme has benefited over 4 lakh families.
Deaths
  • Yashvir Singh, who was India's national wrestling coach when Sushil Kumar won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, passed away following a prolonged illness. 
    • He was honored with the 'Coach of the Year' award by the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) after Sushil's 2010 World Championship gold. 
    • Yashvir had also mentored Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a ₹13,000-crore project to revive Talcher fertiliser plant in Odisha
    • Once commissioned, it will produce 1.27 million tonnes of neem-coated urea per annum. 
    • Talcher Fertilizers, a joint venture between GAIL, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Coal India and Fertilizer Corporation of India, was constituted to revive the plant.
  • Insurance regulator IRDAI has raised the minimum personal accident cover for owner-drivers to ₹15 lakh and has fixed the premium for the cover at ₹750 per annum
    • Earlier, the mandatory cover was ₹2 lakh for cars and ₹1 lakh for two-wheelers.  
  • ICICI Bank today announced that it is going to acquire 8.85% stake in Avenues Payment India for ₹10 crore in cash. 
    • Avenues Payment provides a global remittance platform catering to both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) market segments.

  • Assamese film 'Village Rockstars' directed by Rima Das, has been announced as India's official entry for 2019 Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category. 
    • The film is about a 10-year-old girl from a village in Assam who wants to be a guitarist.
  • The National Sports Awards 2018 were officialy announced.  
    • Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu are going to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award- India's highest sports honour. Here is the complete list of winners :
