- Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
- Ally - someone who is ready to help you, especially against someone else who is causing problems for you
- Sought-after - wanted by many people but not easy to get
- Supplicant - someone who requests something from someone powerful
- Potential - possible or likely in the future
- Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
- Affinity - a natural understanding and sympathy between people
- Mouthpiece - newspapers and magazines which expresses the opinions and beliefs of a government, an organization
- Insist - to keep saying very firmly that something is true, even when other people will not believe you
- Supremo - someone who is in charge of an organization or an activity involving many people
- Assertion - a definite statement or claim that something is true
- Stormy - involving a lot of anger or arguments
- Unquestioned - considered by everyone to be true, correct, honest, important etc
- Alliance - an arrangement between two or more people, groups, or countries by which they agree to work together to achieve something
- Domineering - trying to control other people and make them obey you
- Retrieve - to get something back
- Cede - to allow someone to take something such as power or land away from you
- Push around - to keep telling someone what to do in an unfair and unpleasant way
- Chauvinist - someone who believes that their own country, race, sex, or group is better than any other
- Strident - holding firm opinions or beliefs and tending to express them frequently, in a way that offends some people
- Equilibrium - a situation in which there is a balance between different forces or aspects
- By-election - an election in one particular area to choose a new representative in parliament or on a council, or to replace someone who has died or left the job
- Desertion - the act of leaving someone behind in a difficult situation
- Decline - to become less or worse
- Assessment - the process of making a judgment or forming an opinion, after considering something or someone carefully
- Incumbency - an official position
- Dumping - to get rid of someone or something
- Significant - very large or noticeable
- Perhaps - used for saying that you are not certain about something, or that something may or may not be true

- Integrate - to make someone become a full member of a group or society and be involved completely in its activities
- Insulate - to protect someone from unpleasant knowledge or harmful experiences
- Dweller - someone who lives in a particular type of place
- Mob - a large crowd of people that is dangerous or difficult to control
- Persist - to continue to exist
- Curfew - a law that does not allow people to go outside between a particular time in the evening and a particular time in the morning
- Stand-by - to not take action when you should
- Agitation - an attempt to cause social or political changes by arguing or protesting, or through other activities
- Outskirts - the areas of a town or city that are furthest away from the centre
- Picturesque - a picturesque place or scene is attractive, especially because it is old and interesting
- Idyllic - extremely beautiful and peaceful
- Bustling - a bustling place is full of noise and activity and is usually pleasant and interesting
- Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
- Zoning - the process of officially making land available for a particular use
- Regulation - an official rule that controls the way that things are done
- Agitators - someone who organizes and persuades people to join a protest or political activity
- Unreasonable - not fair
- Resist - to oppose or fight against someone or something
- Evict - to legally force someone to leave a place they are living in
- Angst - strong worry and unhappiness, especially about personal problems
- Scapegoat - to blame a person or thing for something bad that someone else has done
- Forge - to work hard to achieve something
- Provision - plans or preparation for future needs
- Affirmative - a word or phrase that indicates agreement, support, or attention to
- Discontent - the unhappy feeling that you have when you are not satisfied with something
- Persist - to continue to exist
- Adequate - good enough or large enough for a particular purpose
- Urban - relating to towns and cities, or happening there
- Inclusive - deliberately aiming to involve all types of people
- Demographics - relating to the study of populations and the different groups that make them up
