- Today (26th June) is International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
- This day is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.
- The date 26th June chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, just before the First Opium War in China.
- Theme of the year 2018 : "Listen First - Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe."
- Today is International Day in Support of Victims and Nature.
- This day had been launched by the United Nations (UN) in 1997 and is a result of the UN-convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. This convention is binding according to international law, and aims to avoid, ban and prohibit torture.
- India has topped the list of the most dangerous countries in the world for women, according to a survey conducted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
- Afghanistan and Syria were placed on the second and third spot.

- Seychelles has gifted pair of Giant Aldabra tortoise to India as a goodwill gesture.
- They were brought to India as gift from the President of Seychelles Danny Faure during his five-day visit to India.
- The World Food Prize 2018 was awarded to Lawrence Haddad and David Nabarro for their individual but complementary global leadership in elevating maternal and child undernutrition within food security.
- Note : The World Food Prize is most prominent global award for individuals whose breakthrough achievements alleviate hunger and promote global food security.
- Pallavi Durua of Odisha's Koraput district was crowned as the first 'Tribal Queen' at the Adi Rani Kalinga Tribal Queen competition held in Bhubaneswar today.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 3rd annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Mumbai.
- Theme of 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB 2018 : 'Mobilising finance for infrastructure: innovation and collaboration'.
- AIIB is a multilateral development bank with a mission to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia and beyond.
- Mukesh Ambani's Reliance is going to launch its e-commerce business by end of this year through an app meant for local retailers and stores.
- This app will help merchants manage inventory, logistics, and supply chain requirements and even accept payments and credit money back.
- State-run Punjab National Bank (PNB) has set up loan recovery cells in all its 6,900 branches.
- The bank has deployed nearly 25,000 employees to recover bad loans and created a stressed asset vertical led by four general managers at its central headquarters.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed setting up of Board of Management (BoM) in all Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) having deposits of over Rs 100 crore within one year to strengthen governance and promote professional management in these banks.
- Russian billionaire and scientist Igor Ashurbeyli today officially declared himself as the leader of the world's first space nation 'Asgardia'.
- Asgardia aims to be an independent space nation, with its own government, currency, justice system and calendar.
- Focused towards establishing a permanent settlement on the moon in 25 years, Asgardia already has 2 lakh citizens.
- To monitor citizens living in different parts of the country, China has launched bird-shaped drones fitted with a camera, GPS antenna, and satellite communication capability.
- The program codenamed "Dove", is run by Song Bifeng, a professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University.
- India is going to sign a ₹3,400-crore ($500 million) deal with Israel for the purchase of around 4,500 Spike missiles for the Indian Army.
- Note : Spike Missile is a fourth-generation man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile designed by Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
- This deal will be signed ahead of Israel Defence Director-General Udi Adam's visit to India on 2nd July 2018.
- India and Seychelles have signed 6 MoUs to further expand bilateral ties between the two sides. The signed agreements are :
- MoU between Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of Ministry of External Affairs of India and Department of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles.
- MoU regarding Indian Grant Assistance for implementation of small development projects through local bodies, educational and vocational institutions.
- MoU in the area of Cyber Security: It was signed between Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) and Seychelles’ Department of Information Communications Technology.
- Twinning Agreement on Establishment of Friendship and Cooperation between Panaji (Municipal Corporation), Goa (India) and Victoria City of Seychelles
- MOU on Cultural Exchange Programme between India and Seychelles for the years 2018-2022.
- Technical Agreement on Sharing White Shipping Information between Indian Navy and National Information Sharing and Coordination Center of Seychelles.
- Indian Archer Deepika Kumari won her first individual Gold Medal in six years at the Salt Lake World Cup following a 7-3 win over Germany’s Michelle Kroppen in the recurve final.
- Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, aged 45 years and 161 days, has become the oldest player to play a FIFA World Cup match.
- He achieved the feat by featuring in the Group A match against Saudi Arabia today.
