International Current Affairs
  • Today (13th June) is International Albinism Awareness Day.
    • Theme of the year 2018 : “Shining Our Light to the World.”
  • The World Day against Child Labour was observed on 12th June 2018.
    • Theme of World Day against Child Labour 2018 : ‘Generation Safe & Healthy’
  • The 13th edition of India-Nepal joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' successfully concluded at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
    • Aim of Surya Kiran XIII : Enhancing and strengthening level of defence cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.
    • Surya Kiran-XIII exercise saw participation of nearly 300 soldiers from both Indian and Nepal Army. 
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will embark on 3 nation official tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba from 16th to 22th June 2018.
    • Greece will be first leg of the visit, during which he will meet Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos
    • He will also meet his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras and Leader of Opposition
    • Later he will visit Suriname and will hold discussions with President Desire Delano Bouterse
    • A number of agreements and MoUs in the areas of health and medicine, elections, IT, Ayurveda are scheduled to be signed. 
    • India will offer Line of Credit (LoC) of $54.5 million to Suriname for solar related projects. Suriname is a founding member of the International Solar Alliance.
    • After that he will visit Cuba and will hold wide range of discussions with President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez
    • A number of agreements and MoUs in areas of bio technology, research and education in homeopathic medicine, traditional system of medicine and medicinal plants will be signed between both countries during the visit.
  • The International Conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be held in Kathmandu (Nepal's capita) during 17th and 18th June 2018. 
    • Theme of the Conference : “Sustainable Development Goals for Smart Society”.
    • Aim of this Conference : To bring government and private sector together for developing plan of action using sustainable ICT applications.
  • India has ranked 177 out of 180 countries in the Global Environment Performance Index (EPI) rankings.

National Current Affairs
  • The Haryana government has raised the upper age limit of entry into government service from 40 to 42 years
  • The Kerala government has announced plans to launch the Comprehensive Newborn Screening programme to detect birth defects in babies born in government health facilities within 48 hours of birth. 
    • The scheme aims at improving the quality of life for the surviving children.

  • American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States, George HW Bush turned 94 today.
    • With this, he officially became the longest living President in US history
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The US government has approved a deal to sell six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to India for $930 million. 
    • Under the deal, the US will also provide night vision sensors, control radars, Hellfire Longbow missiles and Stinger air-to-air missiles to India. 
  • UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that the country is going to launch 'Start-Up Visas' from the year 2019 to invite talented founders of business ventures
    • The visa will be open to people who do not have a university degree. 
    • The current Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa is only granted to graduates with 'credible business ideas'.
  • At least five major banks including ICICI Bank and Axis Bank are testing the system to send banking communications through WhatsApp
    • These communications will include notifications on ATM cash withdrawal details and point of sales (PoS) transactions.

  • Indian men's cricket team captain Virat Kohli received the Polly Umrigar Award (Best International Cricketer) by the BCCI for his performances in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. 
  • American actress, writer, activist Jane Fonda will be honored with the Lumiere Award 2018 at the 10th Lumière Festival in Lyon, France.
New Appointments
  • India's largest private sector bank Yes Bank's shareholders have approved the reappointment of Rana Kapoor as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for another 3-year term starting September 1.
  • The Constitutional Council of Nepal has recommended Justice Deepak Raj Joshee as new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
  • Current Spain manager Julen Lopetegui has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Real Madrid.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Kerala's tourism department has given its clearance to hold IPL-style boat races, including the Nehru Trophy boat race and the President's Trophy Boat Race in Kollam. 
    • The two month-long boat-racing league will make 75% local participation mandatory, and limit the participation of oarsmen (members of a racing team) from other states and abroad to 25%.
  • Indian woman boxer Saweety Boora claimed a Gold medal in the middleweight category at the Umakhanov Memorial Tournament in Kaspiysk, Russia.
  • Indian long distance runner Gavit Murali Kumar bagged Gold Medal in men's 10,000 metre race at the Gouden Spike meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands.
