Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Korean thaw"
  • Thaw - to become more friendly
  • Set the stage for something - to create the conditions in which something is likely to happen
  • Summit - a meeting or series of meetings between leaders of two or more countries
  • Perhaps - used for saying that you are not certain about something
  • Significant - very large or noticeable
  • Peninsula - a long piece of land that is mostly surrounded by water, but is joined at one end to a larger area of land
  • Armistice - a formal agreement between enemies to stop fighting a war
  • Foresee - to see or know something that will happen in the future

  • Breaking the ice - to do or say something that makes people feel less shy or nervous in a social situation
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential

  • Headline-grabber - reported as a very important story in the news
  • Out of your depth -  in a situation that you cannot deal with because it is too difficult or dangerous
  • Veteran - someone who has a lot of experience doing a particular activity
  • The spotlight - a situation in which you get a lot of public attention
  • Gaffe - an embarrassing mistake that you make in public, especially one that offends or upsets someone
  • Instance - an example of something happening
  • The former - the first of two people, things, or groups previously mentioned
  • Ridiculous - silly or unreasonable and deserving to be laughed at
  • On the back of an envelope - in a hurried way, without much detail
  • Revelling - to celebrate or enjoy yourself in a lively and noisy way
  • Place in the sun - a good or lucky position
  • Face-off - if people or groups face off, they compete or fight with each other
  • Hollowing out - to remove a large number of jobs from an organization or economy in order to save money
