International Current Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on 4-day official state visit to Palestine, Oman and UAE in February 2018.
    • This will be the first ever visit by Indian Prime Minister to Palestine.
    • During the visit, PM will hold talks with the leadership in the countries on matters of mutual interest with their leaders, apart from participating in other events.
  • To deal with disputes related to its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has decided to establish 3 international courts in Beijing, Shenzhen and Xi’an, a development strategy focused on road connectivity and maritime cooperation between Eurasian countries.
National Current Affairs
  • Acid attack victims, people with Autism, Mental Illnesses, and Intellectual Disabilities, will now get reservation for central government jobs
    • In case of direct recruitment, 4% of the total number of vacancies will be reserved for people with benchmark disabilities.
    • Note : Benchmark disability means a person with not less than 40% of a specified disability
  • Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY) has launched an initiative titled Stree Swabhiman
    • Aim of Stree Swabhiman Initiative : To create sustainable model for providing adolescent girls and women an access to affordable sanitary products by leveraging Common Service Centres (CSCs).
MOUs & Agreements
  • India and Cambodia have signed four agreements to boost bilateral cooperation between both countries. They are :
    • MoU on Cooperation for Prevention of Human Trafficking
    • Credit Line Agreement
    • Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters
    • MOU on Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP)
  • India and Laos have signed civil aviation cooperation agreement for providing SkyRev360, a comprehensive e-data gathering, invoicing and collection system.
    • The agreement was signed between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Lao Air Traffic Management, Department of Civil Aviation.
New Appointments
  • Vijay Keshav Gokhale assumed charge as the new Foreign Secretary today for a two-year term. 
    • He has replaced the former foreign secretary S Jaishankar who completed his term of three-years, including one extended year, this month.
Books & Authors
  • A book titled "Dilli Meri Dilli : Before and After 1998" was recently released.
    • The pictorial book traces the evolution of the city of Delhi over the centuries, and puts in perspective its impressive transformation since the beginning of the new millennium.
    • This book was written by the former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit.
  • The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu has released a book titled ‘Staniya Svasasan Mei Addhi Aabadhi’.
    • This book has been authored by Dr. Sadhana Pandey.
Deaths
  • Noted agricultural scientist and pioneer of India’s Green Revolution, Gurcharan Singh Kalkat (92) passed away.
    • He was known for his role in bringing Green Revolution and several exemplary agricultural reforms in Punjab. 
  • Ingvar Kamprad (91) the Founder of Swedish furniture giant Ikea passed away. 
    •  Kamprad was the world's eighth-richest person with a net worth of $58.7 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Awards & Honors
  • Maharashtra has won the award for the Best tableau at the 69th Republic Day parade in New Delhi. 
    • Assam won the Second Prize followed by Chhattisgarh
  • The album '24K Magic' by singer Bruno Mars won 7 awards including Album Of The Year and Best R&B Album at the 60th Grammy Awards this year.  
  • Playback singer Asha Bhosle was chosen for the 5th edition of Yash Chopra Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the Hindi film industry. 
    • She will be presented with this award in February 2018 by Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao.
Sports Current Affairs
  • England all-rounder Ben Stokes became Most expensive buy of IPL 2018 auction after being bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹12.5 crore
    • Note : Jaydev Unadkat became the most expensive Indian player at the auction (also bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹11.5 crore).
