- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave on a 2 Nation tour to China and Myanmar tomorrow.
- In the first leg of his three day tour to China, he will visit coastal and commercial town of Xiamen to attend attend the 9th BRICS Summit.
- Switzerland President Doris Leuthard during her visit to India said that the country is committed to supporting India's fight against black money through exchange of related information.
- She added that approval of the same is awaited in the Swiss Parliament this year.
- Leuthard further emphasised that both the countries can work together and collaborate more in sectors like railways, design, film, and tourism.
- The Royal Air Force (RAF) has become the first branch of Britain's military to open every role to female personnel.
- The women will serve in the RAF Regiment, the Air Force's ground-fighting force, whose main role is to protect RAF bases and airfields.
- Note : The decision comes after Britain lifted the ban on women serving in combat roles last year.
- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today banned Plastic bags and other disposable products after one of the country's biggest dump collapsed in April leading to a disposal crisis.
National Current Affairs
- India is observing National Nutrition Week from 1st of September to 7th of September.
- National Nutrition Week is celebrated each year from 1st September to the 7th September to aware the people about important tips of their health and well-being.
- Theme of National Nutrition Week 2017 : "Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health"
- The Karnataka government has decided to provide free education to girls in the state up to post-graduation level, including private educational institutes.
- Note : The state currently provides girls free education only in government schools and colleges up to undergraduate level.
- For the first time in 27 years, the Assam government has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for six months, declaring the state a "disturbed area".
- Until now, the Centre had been extending AFSPA in Assam multiple times over the years since 1990.
Awards & Honors
- Gujarat's commercial capital Ahmedabad formally accorded the status of India's first World Heritage City by UNESCO.
- The UNESCO handed over the certificate to CM Vijay Rupani today on this regard.
New Appointments
- Gopal Singh, CMD, Central Coalfields Ltd, has been given additional charge as the CMD of Coal India Ltd (CIL) till the time a regular appointment is made for the post.
- Singh has been given the charge today after the position of Coal India chairman fell vacant following superannuation of the incumbent chairman Suthirtha Bhattacharya.
- Cab-hailing startup Uber has hired Firefox Co-founder Blake Ross to help develop product strategy at the startup.
- Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah today inducted three Congress legislators to fill vacant ministerial berths in the Cabinet.

- US President Donald Trump names former navy pilot and Republican Congressman James Bridenstine to head NASA.
- Sanjaya Baru today took over as the Secretary General of industry body, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
- Santosh Sharma was today appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Coper Limited (HCL).
- Sharma took over after K D Diwan stepped down from the post on August 31, on attaining superannuation.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Swedish defence giant SAAB and Indian conglomerate Adani group have announced a collaboration in defence manufacturing entailing billions of dollars of investment, mainly eyeing a contract for Single-engine fighter jets for the Indian Air Force.
Sports Current Affairs
- 11-year old Indian chess player Divya Deshmukh bagged gold in the Under-12 World Cadet Chess championship held in Brazil.
