International Current Affairs
  • Germany has test launched surveillance cameras with biometric face recognition capability at one of Berlin's railway stations. 
    • The test aims to determine whether the cameras can automatically recognise faces of specific persons and single them out from a crowd.
  • US President Donald Trump today signed an Anti-Russia sanctions bill into law after negotiating its "critical elements". 
    • The bill accuses Russia of meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections and punishes the country for its annexation of Crimea in 2014. 
    • Note : This is the first step that Trump has taken against Russia, which reportedly helped him become US President.
National Current Affairs
  • Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari unveiled the logo of the project Highway NEST and Highway Village at New Delhi today.
    • As per this plan, the Ministry will encourage the local farmers or villagers to set up wayside amenities along the National Highways of the country at every 40 to 50 km.
    • These units will have features of basic needs like food court, drinking water, toilets, shops beside a fuel pump.
    • The smaller units will be called NEST while the larger ones will be called Villages.
  • The Supreme Court today refused to stay the exercise of NOTA (None Of The Above) option in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections scheduled to take place on 8 August.
  • The Union Cabinet today cleared a proposal to extend the proxy voting facility to Non-Resident Indians.
    • Note : Until now, the option of proxy voting was only available to service personnel in the country.

  • Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was named 'Beautiful Global Indian Icon' at Vogue Beauty Awards 2017.
    • Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Rajput were named the 'Most Beautiful Couple'. 
    • Akshay Kumar won the award for 'Most Beautiful Man of the Decade'.
    • Varun Dhawan won the 'Most Beautiful Man Of The Year' award.
    • Disha Patani was named 'Fresh Face'.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Indian Railways has announced that people can now pay for tatkal tickets after receiving them
    • The tickets can be booked from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website, with the option for home delivery of the tickets. 
    • They can then be paid for by using cash, debit card, or credit card at the time of delivery.
  • Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved is going to launch 'swadeshi' line of clothing for women, men, and children by April 2018.
  • The government is going to make Aadhar-based authentication mandatory at the time of registration of documents such as sale, purchase and transfer of property
    • This move is aimed to curb the use of black money for transaction in property dealings. 
    • Note : The government recently made Aadhaar card mandatory for getting Permanent Account Number (PAN) and filing Income Tax Returns.
Science & Technology
  • India's first successful heart transplant operation was conducted on this day (3rd August) in the year 1994, at AIIMS, Delhi by a team of 20 surgeons led by Dr P Venugopal. 
    • Heart from a 35-year-old lady with brain haemorrhage was transplanted to a 40-year-old patient in a 59-minute procedure, following which he lived for 15 years before dying from an unrelated disease.
  • The US Air Force today successfully launched an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile from California, the fourth such test this year. 
    • The test will show the readiness and effectiveness of the weapon system.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Double Paralympics gold medalist Devendra Jhajharia is going to become the 1st Para Ahlete to be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the country's highest sporting honour. 
    • Jhajharia, who won a gold in javelin at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, is the only Indian to win two Paralympic golds. 
    • Jhajharia won his first gold at the 2004 Athens Paralympics in the same event.
