  • Boycott - to not take part in an event / to completely avoid a person from a group
  • Criminalising -  to make an activity illegal by making a new law
  • Ostracism - exclusion from a society or group
  • Template - something that is used as a pattern or an example for something else
  • Prohibiting -  to officially stop something from being done, especially by making it illegal
  • Informal - relaxed and friendly
  • Council - the elected officials who govern a local area such as a city or county
  • Pervasive - spreading through the whole of something and becoming a very obvious feature of it
  • Progressive - supporting social and political change that aims to make a system fairer
  • Assent - approval
  • Pernicious - very dangerous or harmful, especially to someone’s moral character
  • Dominant - a dominant person or animal is stronger than others in a group and wants to control them
  • Enforcing - to make sure that a law or rule is obeyed by people
  • Conformity - behaviour that is acceptable because it is similar to the behaviour of everyone else
  • Prevention - to stop something from happening or someone from doing something
  • Prohibition - the act of officially not allowing something, or an order that does this
  • Redressal - a sum of money paid in compensation for loss or injury
  • Offence - a crime or illegal activity for which there is a punishment
  • Imprisonment - to put someone in prison (jail)
  • Custom - something that people do that is traditional or usual
  • Funeral - a ceremony that takes place after someone dies
  • Progressive - supporting social and political change that aims to make a system fairer
  • Takes into account - to consider or remember something when judging a situation
  • Discrimination - unfair treatment of someone because of their religion, race, or other personal features
  • Morality - principles of right or wrong behaviour
  • Inclination - a feeling that you want to do something
  • Obstacle - a difficulty or problem that prevents you from achieving something
  • Enact -  to make a proposal into a law
  • Excommunication - the action of officially excluding someone from something
  • Violate -  to do something that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
  • Constitutional - allowed by the constitution of a country or organization
  • Vulnerable - easily damaged by something negative or harmful
  • Informal - not official and has no fixed rules
  • Conformity - behaviour that is acceptable because it is similar to the behaviour of everyone else
  • Diktat - an official rule that people are forced to obey
  • Supposedly - used to show that you do not believe that something you have been told is true
  • Mountaineer - someone who climbs high or dangerous mountains
  • Notorious - famous for something bad
  • Conquered - to succeed in climbing a tall mountain
  • Repugnant - extremely unpleasant or offensive
  • Dignity - respect that other people have for you or that you have for yourself
  • Prevailing - existing at a particular time or in a particular place
  • Circumstance - a fact or condition that affects a situation
  • Assault - a physical attack on someone, or the crime of physically attacking someone
  • Abhorrent - if something is abhorrent to you, you dislike it very much, usually because you think it is immoral
  • Ought - used to say that it is necessary or desirable to perform the action
  • Controversial - causing disagreement or discussion
  • Referendum - an occasion when everyone in a country can vote to make a decision about one particular subject
  • Awkward - difficult to deal with and embarrassing
  • Tightening the purse-strings - reduce  the amount of money that is available
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Meddling - to become involved in a situation that you have no right to be involved in, in a way that is annoying
  • Separatist - someone who is a member of a particular race, religion, or other group within a country and who believes that this group should be independent and have their own government or in some way live apart from other people
  • Veteran - someone who was in the armed forces, especially during a war

  • Embittered - angry and unhappy about things that have happened to you in the past

  • Mainstream - considered ordinary or normal and accepted or used by most people
