- The US House of Representatives today voted 419-3 to approve new sanctions on Russia for its interference in the 2016 presidential elections, despite President Donald Trump objecting to the legislation.
- The bill would also levy new sanctions against North Korea and Iran over the nations' ballistic missile programs.
- To cut down the distance to the China border through Tawang by 10 km, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is going to construct 2 tunnels through Arunachal Pradesh's Sela Pass.
- National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is going to visit China tomorrow to attend BRICS meeting in Beijing.
- Nation pays tribute to martyrs on 18th Kargil Victory Day (Kargil Vijay Diwas) today.
- Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of Operation Vijay.
- This day is is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War's Heroes.
- On this day, 26 July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.
- The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26 July 1999.
- Kargil was India's first televised war that enabled people across the country to see what was happening on the battlefield.

- Adobe today announced that it will stop updating and distributing Flash Player plug-in by the end of 2020.
- Flash technology was once one of the most widely used ways to watch videos and play games online.
- In recent years, browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari have been deprecating Flash in favour of its alternative HTML5.

- Former Chief Marketing Officer of furniture e-tailer Urban Ladder Sanjay Gupta has joined Uber as its Head of Marketing in India.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Private sector lender Axis Bank has reached an agreement to buy digital payments platform FreeCharge for ₹350-400 crore in cash from Snapdeal.
- Axis Bank and FreeCharge are likely to announce the deal this week.
- The board of online marketplace Snapdeal has accepted bigger rival Flipkart's revised takeover offer of $900-950 million.
- Flipkart's offer is said to include Snapdeal's marketplace business and Unicommerce, but not Snapdeal-owned app FreeCharge and logistics arm Vulcan Express.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had stopped printing the ₹2,000 currency notes about five months ago and has started printing the smaller denomination ₹200 notes.
- Around a billion new ₹200 notes will be in circulation next month.
- The Competition Commission of India today approved the merger of Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Group's Idea Cellular.
- The $23 billion transaction will create India's largest telecom company with a 35% customer and 41% revenue market share.

- India is going to host the Men's World Boxing Championship for the first time in 2021 and the Women's World Championship in 2018.

- Important Note : Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association had recently bagged the hosting rights of Chennai Open which is India's only ATP World Tour event, and re-branded it as "Maharashtra Open", to be held in Pune.
