Meet the 14th President of India : Ram Nath Kovind

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee and former Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind was today elected as the President of India. He defeated Congress-led Opposition candidate Meira Kumar by more than 65 per cent of the votes in the presidential election.

With this, the 71-year-old will be the 14th President of India and the Second Dalit to hold the top constitutional position after KR Narayanan who served as the President of India during 1997-2002. Mr. Kovind will be the first BJP member to be elected President.

Incumbent Pranab Mukerhjee's last day as president will be on 24th July Kovind's will take oath as India's President on 25th July 2017.

Note : The Vice-Presidenti election will be held on 5th August 2017 for which NDA nominated Venkaiah Naidu as it's candidate and the opposition picked Gopalkrishna Gandhi (former West Bengal Governor).
