  • Appointed as the Interim Director General (IDG) of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) on a full time basis. He was the Former Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

  • Appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Earlier he had served in Air Asia India as the Chief Financial Officer.   • Appointed as the as the Chief Executive Officer of its digital payment platform FreeCharge and a commitment to invest an additional $20 million in the company.

  • Appointed as new whole time member of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). This appointment marks a departure from the regular practice of hiring SERI board members. ,rho typically were men coming from the public sector.
Pawan Goenka
  • Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra, has been granted second term as Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT-Madras. The President of India, in his capacity as visitor of IIT-Madras, approved the nomination of Goenka, as Chairman of BoG, IIT-Madras, for a sec-ond term for three years with effect from June 9, 2017. He had been serving as Chairman, BoG of IITMadras, since 9th June 2014 when he was first nominated to the position for a three-year period, says a press release from IIT-Madras.
Sumit Mullick
  • Appointed as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra succeeding Swadheen Kshatriya. A Senior IAS officer (1982-batch) served as the Divisional Commissioner of Amravati and worked as Secretary of School Education.
Anzarinder Singh
  • On 16th march, 2017 took oath as Punjab chief minister and was sworn in as the state's 26th chief minister abng with nine ministers, including Navjot Singh Sidhu. 
B P Kanungo
  • Appointed as the Deputy Governor in Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for three years on 10th March, 2017. In March 2016 Kanungo was appointed as executive direc-tor in the Central Bank.
Manjeev Singh Puri
  • Appointed as India's new envoy to Nepal on 10th March, 2017, succeeding Ranjit Rae, whose term came to an end in February 2017.

  • Telecom Secretary has been named as Indaro next Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) from June 2017.
P K Purwar
Appointed Chairman and Managing Director of state-run telecom major Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for the period of five years.

  • Appointed as the Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd (CIFCL) w.e.f August 19, 2017 when the cur-rent Managing Director Vellayan Subbiah completes his term in office.
International Arena
  • Britain has taken a nostalgic trip into the past to celebrate the 100th birthday of singer Vera Lynn by projecting her image onto the white cliffs of Dover. The unusual tribute on 20th March, 2017 is a reference to her World War II classic (There'll be Blue birds Over) the White Cliffs of Dover. 
  • In Egypt, former President Hosni Mubarak has been freed from detention, six years after being overthrown. He was ordered freed earlier this month after Egypt's top appeals court cleared him over the deaths of protesters in the 2011 uprising. Mr Mubarak, 88, became fourth President of Egypt in 1981.
  • Bakri Hassan Saleh, a former army general and top aide to President Omar Al-Bashir was sworn in as Sudan's first prime minister since the post was scrapped in a 1989 Islamist-backed coup. 
    • Baltri Hassan Saleh, a military officer Involved In the bloodless coup that brought Bashir to power three decades ago, was named prime minister by the executive bureau of the president's National Congress Party (NCP). 
  • The US Senate has confirmed Indian-American Seema Verma for a top health care position in the Trump administration and she was set to play a key role in the government's bid to "repeal and replace" Obamacare.
    • Verma, who has been described by the White House as the "unquestionably qual-ified' first generation Indian-American, was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 55-43. 
  • Melanie Segard, a 21-year-otd woman with Down Syndrome, broke new ground for the disabled on 14th March by presenting the weather forecast on French national televi-sion. O 
    • She soared to prominence after an advocacy grow, UNAPEI, launched a campaign ahead of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, entitled 'Melanie can do it'.

  • Former director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune died of a cardiac arrest. He was the first to propose a link between the El Nino phenomenon and the Indian monsoon.
Pyari Mohan Mohapatra
  • Former Rajya Sabha MP and president of Odisha Janamorcha party passed away in Mumbai after a prolonged illness.He was 77. * He was also called 'Chanakya of Odisha pol-itics'.
Taarak Mehta
  • Renowned Indian humorist and playwright Taarak Mehta' passes away at the age of 87 years after prolonged illness. * The popular series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' is N adaptation of Padma Shri Taarak Mehta's column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasms'.
Haft Abdul Salam
  • Senior Congress leader and Member of Rajya Sabha passed away at Imphal.
  • He was the first Manipud Muslim to be a member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur
  • Salam represented the Upper House since 2014 and also served as Minister.
Arvind Padntanabhan
  • Veteran journalist and an Executive Editor at IANS, died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi early on 8th march, 2017. 
  • He had a long inning at IANS, joining the India Abroad newspaper that was then part of the wire service in 1999 as in-charge of its Business Section.
Bhuma Nagi Reddy
  • Three-time Member of Parliament and sit-ting MLA of Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, died of cardiac arrest on 13th March, 2017.
Umesh Sood
  • Former footballer and ex-president of Delhi Soccer Association, passed away after a massive heart affack at his south Delhi residence.
  • He was elected as president of DSA in 1993 and served till 1998. During his tenure, the local league flourished and was held annual-ly at the Ambedkar stadium. He procured sponsorship for each edition of the local league.

  • Former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and Member of Parliament (MP) has passed away after a long illness. He served three terms as Member of Parliament (MP) from 1979-1996.
Rabi Ray
  • Noted socialist leader and former Lok Sabha speaker passed away at the age of 93 yrs at a Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha. He was the union minister of health and family welfare in the Moral Desai ministry and the speaker of ninth Lok Sabha from 1989-1991.
Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya
  • Popular Bengali folk music singer passed away in a road accident in Hooghly district, West Bengal. 
  • He was also part of a folk band called 'Dohar', which had as its objective the popularization of the rustic songs of Be gal and North East India.

  • Malayalam film director Diphan passed away at the age of 47 yrs in a private ) hospital at Kochi. Diphan was known for his films namely Puthiya Mukham, Hero and SIM.
Tehmtan R Andhyarujina 
  • Eminent jurist passed away due to Illness. He was the Solicitor General of India from 1996 to 1998. Andhyarujina was known for his expertise in a branch of constitutional law relating to parliamentary privileges.
Chinu Modi
  • Noted Gujarati poet and ghazal writer has passed away in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). He has made a great contribution to the Gujarati literature with his poetry, plays, novels and stories. Chinu Modi had received Sahitya Academy award in 2014.
Arun Sarma
  • Noted playwright & Sahirya Academi Award winner (88- year) passed away after a brief illness. He had written more than 50 plays and books. Sarma has also won Padma Shri, and Assam Valley Literary.
