Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Gets Defence Ministry

Goa Governor Mridula Sinha today appointed Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as the new Chief Minister of Goa. Parrikar has been asked to prove majority within 15 days after taking oath. After being appointed the new Chief Minister of Goa, Parrikar has announced that he has resigned as the Defence Minister and has sent his resignation to the Prime Minister's Office. Parrikar has already submitted the evidence of support of 21 MLAs and will take his oath as Goa Chief Minister on Tuesday.
 

With this move, the post of Defence Minister has left vacant. So, the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been given the additional charge of the Defence Ministry after President Pranab Mukherjee accepted Parrikar's resignation.  This is the second time that Jaitley is holding the additional portfolio of Defence Ministry during the present NDA government. Jaitley had headed the Defence Ministry from May 2014 to November 2014 before Parrikar was appointed to the post.
