  • Springboard - something that helps you to become successful
  • Sworn in - when someone is sworn in, they make a formal promise to be honest or loyal, when starting a new official job
  • Envisaged - to have something as a plan or an intention
  • Rivalling - competing

  • Dispirit - cause (someone) to lose enthusiasm or hope
  • Tenacious - a tenacious person is very determined and is not willing to stop when they are trying to achieve something
  • Scaling up something - to increase the size, amount, or importance of something, usually an organization or process
  • Setting his sights lower - to accept that you will only be able to get something less than you hoped for
  • Merely - used for emphasizing that something is small or unimportant
  • To take the stairs instead of elevator - to do something in a slow and calm way instead of hurrying

  • Proximity - the state of being near in space or time

  • Crisis - a time of great disagreement, confusion, or suffering

  • Groom - to prepare someone for a special job or activity
  • Autocratic - ruling with complete power
  • Inclined - feeling that you want to do something
  • Run-in - if you have a run-in with someone, you have a serious argument with them or you get into trouble with them
  • Jurisdiction - the authority of a court or official organization to make decisions and judgments
  • Present a pretty picture - to make a situation or thing seem better than it is, often through exaggeration or lies

  • Farewell - used for saying goodbye to someone when you do not expect to see them again for a long time
  • Stint - a fixed or limited period of time spent doing a particular job or activity

  • Inequality - the unfair situation in society when some people have more opportunities, money, etc. than other people

  • Demit - to give up a job or position by telling your employer that you are leaving

  • Corrosive - a corrosive substance contains chemicals that can cause damage

  • Impunity - freedom from punishment or from the unpleasant results of something that has been done
  • Arena - an activity that involves argument and discussion
  • Thoughtful - carefully considering things
  • Strived - to try very hard to do something or to make something happen
  • Template - something that is used as a pattern or an example for something else
