Meet the New Director of CBI - Alok Verma

A three-member panel headed by PM Narendra Modi along with  Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar and Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, today appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma as the new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He will be in this position for two years.

Alok Kumar Verma is a 1979 batch IPS officer who was serving as the Delhi Police Commissioner before being appointed as the CBI Director. He had taken over as the Delhi Police chief from BS Bassi, after the latter retired in February 2016. Verma had also served as the police chief in Mizoram and the Tihar jail's Director General. 

Note : The post of CBI director was lying vacant for over one month following Anil Sinha’s retirement on December 2.
