International Current Affairs
  • The Cuban government has declared 9 days of public mourning following the death of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro
    • His funeral will be held at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba on December 4.
    • Note : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the Indian delegation at the funeral. 
  • Iraq's parliament approved a law to transform Popular Mobilisation forces, a coalition of Iran-backed Shi'ite militias, into a legal and separate military corps. 
    • This comes while the Iraqi army is trying to recapture the Islamic State stronghold in Mosul.
  • The leaders of 14 European countries led by Germany have issued a statement calling for reopening of arms control talks with Russia, over concerns of an 'unstable' Europe.
    • This comes after Donald Trump won the US presidency, with reports suggesting European countries are taking a new and less assertive approach towards Russia.
  • Former Prime Minister Francois Fillon has won France's Conservative Presidential primary.
    • This will position him as the leading mainstream candidate to take on National Front leader Marine Le Pen in the presidential election this spring.

National Current Affairs
  • The 51st Annual Conference of Directors-General of Police of States was recently held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana. 
    • The three day (from November 25-27, 2016) conference was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. 
    • It was attended by around 100 DGPs of states, Director Generals of Central paramilitary forces and their Inspectors General.
  • The Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched e-pashuhaat portal to connect farmers and breeders of bovine animals.
    • The portal will act as a single online e-trading market platform, including availability of bovine germplasm. 
    • It will enable the farmers to buy bovine animals, frozen semen and embryo.
  • Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav today inaugurated India's first bicycle highway, from Etawah to Agra. 
    • The 207-kilometre long and 7-feet wide highway was constructed by the UP Public Works Department and runs parallel to the main highway.
  • The Central government has decided to form a sub-committee of Chief Ministers across the country to deal with problems that the people are facing due to demonetisation.
    • This comes after various opposition parties have been protesting and opposing the Centre's demonetisation move ever since the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8.
  • The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to open a section of Phase-III in March next year, which will run driverless trains and new coaches made by a Korean manufacturer. 
    • In its first year, the trains will run on an 'Autopilot' mode with a supervising driver. 
    • By 2018, DMRC plans to make the trains completely driverless.
  • Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh flagged off the World War II Vintage Jeep Rally from the Koirengei Airfield today. 
    • Organised as part of the Manipur Sangai Festival, the event was aimed at spreading a message of peace. 
  • The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation launched AirSewa website and app to track flights, register complaints to offer people a convenient and hassle-free air travel experience. 
    • Both include a mechanism for grievance redressal, back-office operations for grievance handling, flight status and airport information.

New Appointments
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet today approved the appointment of Lieutenant General AK Bhatt as the new Director General Military Operation (DGMO) of Indian Army
    • The incumbent DGMO Lt General Ranbir Singh has been promoted to General Officer Commanding of Strike 1 Corps. 
    • Note : Bhatt was promoted to the rank of Lt General from Major General in April.
  • Flipkart-owned fashion platform Myntra has appointed Ajit Narayanan as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) as its previous CTO Shamik Sharma has moved on to an advisory role.

Deaths
  • Noted Marathi author Anand Yadav (80) passed away.
    • His autobiography novel ‘Zombi’ had won him prestigious Sahitya Akadmi award in 1991. 

Business & Economic Affairs
  • Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has launched bond notes equivalent to US dollar.
    • This comes after unrest in Zimbabwe as the government delayed state officials' salaries. 
  • In order to reach out to unbanked villages, private lender ICICI Bank has deployed mobile branches in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha to help customers meet their daily financial needs conveniently post demonetisation. 
    • The mobile branches are catering to over 25,000 rural customers.
    • This is in line with the bank’s commitment to extend services to remote locations, it added.

Sports Current Affairs
  • Mercedes' Formula One driver Nico Rosberg won his maiden Formula One drivers' championship to become the 33rd Formula One World Champion in F1 history. 
  • Uttar Pradesh-based IAS officer Suhas LY won the Asian Para-Badminton Championships in Beijing after defeating Indonesia's Harry Susanto 21-4, 21-11 in the final. 
    • Suhas, who is currently posted as the Azamgarh district magistrate, was a wildcard entry to the tournament and had won six consecutive matches to reach the final.
  • National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced that it is going to launch NBA Academy India in Delhi in April, 2017. 
    • The Academy will serve as an elite basketball training centre for top 24 men and women prospects, who would be selected by next February. 
    • The academy, which will be the fifth elite training centre globally, will be fully funded by NBA.
