Hello everyone, in our Lesson 37, we learnt about the prefixes  Intra and IntroIntra represents the meanings within; inside and Intro represents the meanings to the inside; withinToday we shall see the prefix macro. Happy Reading :)

Day 38 : Macro

  • macro - large; long; excessive
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • marcroeconomics (noun) = the study of large economic systems
    • macro - Prefix = large
    • eco - Root = house
    • nomy (nenein) - Suffix = manage
    • ics - Suffix = the art of
  • macrobiosis (noun) = length of life
    • macro - Prefix = long
    • bio - Root = life
    • osis - Suffix = action
Let's have a look at some more words with macro prefixes, for better understanding.
  • macrocosm = the great world, universe
  • macrobian = having lived a long time
  • macro logy = a great deal of talking
  • macrobiotics = the science of prolonging life
  • macrocosmic = relating to the great world
  • macrography - large size writing which shows a nervous disorder 
  • macrochemistry - chemistry which does not require a microscope 
  • macrometer - instrument to measure size and distance of objects
  • macrodont - having large teeth 
  • macrobiote - one that lives a long time
  • macrocosm - the great world; universe
  • macrograph - a photograph of an object magnified
