- Reaching out to - to offer help and support to someone
- Valley - an area of low land between hills or mountains
- Protest - an occasion when people show that they disagree with something by standing somewhere, shouting, carrying signs, etc
- Caught by surprise - to happen unexpectedly
- Semblance - a situation or condition that is similar to what is wanted or expected, but is not exactly as hoped for
- Tenuous - thin, weak, and easily broken
- Curfew - a rule that everyone must stay at home between particular times, usually at night, especially during a war or a period of political trouble
- Tactic - a planned way of doing something
- Disperse - if a crowd of people disperses, or if someone disperses it, the people separate and go in different directions
- Stone-pelters - people who throw stones repeatedly at others
- Chaired - to be the person in charge of a meeting, committee, or company
- Stakeholder - a person or company that has invested in a business and owns part of it
- Separatist - a member of a group of people who want to be independent
- Framework - a set of principles, ideas etc that you use when you are forming your decisions and judgments
