Hello everyone, in our Lesson 22, we learnt about the prefix DysDys  represent the meanings bad and difficultToday we shall see the prefix eco. Happy Reading :)

Day 23 : Eco

  • eco - house; environment
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • economy (noun) = careful management of money
    • econ (oikos) - Prefix = house
    • nomy (nemein) - Suffix = manage
  • ecologist (noun) = a scientist who studies ecology
    • eco - Prefix = house
    • ology - Suffix = a subject of study
    • ist - Suffix = a person
Let's have a look at some more words with eco prefixes, for better understanding.
  • ecology = the study of plants and living creatures 
  • ecocide = the destruction of the natural environment
  • eco-friendly = not harmful to the environment 
  • ecosystem = all the living things in an area and the way they affect each other and the environment
  • ecotourism = tourism directed towards exotic natural environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife
  • economics = the way in which trade, industry, or money is organized, or the study of this
  • ecoactivist = one who actively opposes the pollution, or destruction by other means, of the environment
  • ecobabble = using the technical language of ecology to make the user seem to be ecologically aware
  • ecobiosis = the conditions pertaining to a mode of life within a specific habitat
  • ecocatastrophe, ecocatastrophy = major damage to the environment, especially when caused by human activity
  • ecocentric = centring on the environment
  • ecocidal = designed or tending to destroy the environment
  • ecolaw = legislation dealing with the environment
