Topic 1 : "The new symphony in India-U.S. ties"

  • Rousing - exciting
  • Quoted - repeatd the words that someone else has said or written
  • Lyricism - the beautiful expression of personal thoughts and feelings
  • Bilateral - involving two countries
  • Consolidated - to become stronger
  • Procurement - to get something, especially after an effort
  • Piracy - the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work
  • Peacekeeping - the activity of preventing war and violence
  • Patrolling - to go around an area to see if there is any trouble or danger (especially soldiers or the police)
  • Strategic - relating to the gaining of overall or long-term advantage
  • Non-alignment - if a country is non-aligned, it does not support or depend on any powerful country or group of countries
  • Dramatic - very sudden or noticeable, or full of action and excitement
  • Drawn the line - to never do something because you think it is wrong
  • Alliance - a group of countries, political parties, or people who have agreed to work together because of shared interests or aims
  • Intend - to have as a plan or purpose
  • Designation - an official title or name
  • Prosperity - the state of being successful and having a lot of money
  • Heavy lifting - serious or difficult work
  • Yielded - produced
  • Pause - a short period in which something such as a sound or an activity is stopped before starting again
  • Navigation - the process of directing the way that a ship, aircraft, etc. will travel
  • Concern - to involve someone directly
  • Reassure - to do something to remove the doubts and fears of someone
  • Counter-move - a move made in opposition to another
  • Firmly - strongly and tightly
  • Cold War - a state of extreme unfriendliness existing between countries
  • Hesitations - doubts
  • Candid - truthful and straightforward (frank)
  • Domestic - relating to a person's own country
  • Humane - showing kindness, care, and sympathy towards others
  • Standing ovation -  an occasion when the people in an audience stand up to clap at the end of a performance or speech because they liked it very much

  • Monsoon - the season of heavy rain after the summer in hot Asian countries
  • Habitat - the natural environment in which an animal or plant usually lives
  • Clusters - groups
  • Assessment - the act of judging or deciding the amount, value, quality, or importance of something
  • Urban areas - areas related to City / Town
  • Underscores - highlights
  • Extremely - to a very great degree / very
  • Vulnerable - able to be easily influenced or attacked
  • Assets - useful or valuable things
  • Catastrophic - involving or causing sudden great damage or suffering
  • Unprecedented - never done or known before
  • Flooding - a situation in which an area is covered with water, especially from rain
  • Volume - the number or amount of something
  • Avoidable - possible to avoid
  • Infrastructure - the basic systems and services, such as transport and power supplies, that a country or organization uses in order to work effectively
  • Deficit - the amount by which something is too small
  • Borne - to accept / tolerate something unpleasant
  • Devote - to give your time or effort completely to something
  • Vast - extremely big
  • Merely - just / only
  • Colossal - extremely large or great
  • Draw up something - to prepare something, usually something official, in writing:
  • Integrate - to combine two or more things in order to become more effective
  • Resilient - able to quickly return to a previous good condition
  • Disaster - an event that results in great harm, damage, or death, or serious difficulty
  • Anomaly - something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected
  • Impacts - effects
  • Floodplain - an area of flat land near a river that is often flooded when the river becomes too full
  • Tolerance - willingness to accept behaviour and beliefs that are different from your own, although you might not agree with or approve of them
  • Encroachment - to take control or possession of something which is not your's
  • Policymakers - a member of a government department, who is responsible for making new rules, laws, etc.
  • Migrants - people who travels to a different country or place, often in order to find work
  • Eroding - slowly reduceing or destroying something
  • Harvesting - the process of collecting a natural resource to use it effectively
  • Suburban - the outer area of a town
  • Revive - to bring something back to life
  • Ecology - the relationships between the air, land, water, animals, plants, etc. of a particular area
  • Precious - of great value because of being rare, expensive, or important
  • Transparent - open and honest, without secrets
  • Hazard - something that is dangerous and likely to cause damage
  • Vital - very important
  • Disrupted - prevented / stopped
  • Wherewithal - the money necessary for a particular purpose
  • Durable - able to last a long time without becoming damaged
  • Urbanising - to build houses, offices, etc. in an area of countryside so that it becomes a town
  • Withstand - to be strong enough, or not be changed by something
  • Vagaries - unexpected events or changes that cannot be controlled and can influence a situation
