A South Korean author named Han Kang has won the Man Booker International Prize for the year 2016. She received this award for her novel 'The Vegetarian'. She is the first South Korean to win the award. The book was translated by Deborah Smith, who started teaching herself Korean in 2010. Now Han Kang will share the prize money of £50,000 (around $72,000) equally with her 28-year-old British translator Deborah.

About the Book :
The Vegetarian, a 3 part novel about a woman who "wants to reject human brutality" and gives up eating meat. This was first published in the year 2007. It is Han's first book to be translated in English by British translator Deborah Smith, and was subsequently published in 2015.

About Man Booker International Prize
This is an international literary award, which was hosted by Britain. This award was introduced in 2004 to complement the Man Booker Prize. This award was sponsored by the Man Group. From 2005 until 2015 the award was given every two years to a living author of any nationality for a body of work published in English or generally available in English translation. Beginning in 2016, the award was significantly reconfigured. It is now given annually to a single book in English translation, with a £50,000 prize for the winning title, shared equally between author and translator.
