  • Mongering - the action of deliberately arousing public fear (to spread fear among people)
  • Inevitably - unavoidably (something that is surely happen, unable to be ​avoided or ​prevented)
  • Rhetoric - speech or writing ​intended to be ​effective and ​influence ​people
  • Pitch  - to make someone to do something
  • Retaliatory - to do something in response to an action (attack)
  • Dispute - an official argument
  • Amicably - friendly
  • Discriminatory - to ​treat ​people ​differently (partiality)
  • Vis-à-vis - in ​comparison with
  • Impact - influence (to show effect)
  • Tit-for-tat - giving back as much as you got (especially punishment)
  • To focus on the larger picture - to focus on the most ​important ​facts about a ​situation and the ​effects of that ​situation on other things
  • Surplus - more than what is needed or used
  • Looming - something ​unwanted is going to ​happen ​soon and ​causing ​worry
  • Retiree - a person who has retired from his job
  • Curbs - to ​control or ​limit something that is not ​wanted
  • Treasury - A place in which private or public funds are received, kept, managed, and disbursed
  • philanthropic - to help others

  • Boasts - to have something to be ​proud of

  • Abstain - to not do something (​especially something ​enjoyable but bad)

  • Caprice - a ​sudden and usually ​silly ​wish to do something

  • Verdict - an ​opinion or ​decision made after ​judging the ​facts that are given (Judge)
  • Ought to - have to
  • Wary - not ​completely ​trusting something or someone
  • Echelons - a ​particular ​level or ​group of ​people within an ​organization
  • Contention - an ​opinion ​expressed in an ​argument (disagreement)
  • Laudable - worthy of high praise
  • Confining - restricting something
  • Permissive society - the society which allows ​behaviour that other ​people might ​disapprove of (here drinking)
  • Covert - not openly displayed (secret or hidden)
  • Phenomenon - a situation that we can observe (this situation helps us to explain something)
  • In its wake / in the wake of - as a result of some event (after something)
  • Rehabilitate - to restore normal life (here to give jobs)
  • Discretion - the ​ability to ​behave without ​hurting anybody's feelings
  • Extraneous - outside
