- India ranked 130 among 188 countries in Human Development Report 2015 released today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

- India's rank was 135 according to the 2014 report.
- Norway topped the list followed by Australia and Switzerland.
- As per the report, the HDI rank of Bangladesh and Pakistan was 142 and 147, respectively.
- Among the BRICS nations, India was ranked lowest.
- Today (14th December) is National Energy Conservation Day.
- This day is observed in India to make people aware about the importance of energy as well as saving or conserving the more energy by using less energy.
- Important Points to Note :
- Lok Sabha today passed the Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill, 2015 by voice vote.
- The bill seeks to amend the existing legislation to overcome difficulties in setting up of new nuclear projects and enhancement of nuclear power generation.
- It allows the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, NPCIL to have joint ventures with other Public Sector Undertakings for establishing nuclear power plants for power generation.
- Mumbai Police commissioner Ahmad Javed has been appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
- The post of ambassador in Indian Embassy in Riyadh is lying vacant since April.
- Note : Ahmad Jawed had recently replaced Rakesh Maria as the Mumbai Police commissioner during the sensational Sheena Bora murder case.
- Global software major Wipro has been awarded Aegis Graham Bell Award 2015 for developing a solution for the Internet of Things (IoT).
- Note : The Aegis Graham Bell Award is the country's innovation award in the field of Telecom, Internet, Media and Entertainment (TIME) and Social, Mobility Analytics and Cloud (SMAC).
- Indian-origin writer Jamaludeen Mohamed Sali (J M Sali), from Singapore has been awarded prestigious South East Asia Write Award 2015.
