International Affairs

• Pakistani students formed a human shield for Hindus celebrating Holi at a temple in Karachi today to protect and show solidarity with the minority community.
• The National Students Federation (NSF) formed the shield at Swami Narayan Temple as part of an attempt to promote interfaith coexistence and cooperation among different religious and ethnic groups.
• External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrives in Sri Lanka  to set the stage for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sri Lanka, the first bilateral visit to the country by an Indian premier in over 25 years.
• During her two-day stay, Swaraj calls on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and hold talks with Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
• She is also expected to call on President Maithripala Sirisena during the trip.
• Modi will be in Sri Lanka on March 13-14, during which he will hold meetings with President Maithripala Sirisena and other senior leaders across the political spectrum.
• Ahead of the UN climate conference in Paris later this year, India and Egypt have decided to form a "joint working group" for "cooperation on environment and climate change".
• This group will discuss and finalise the areas of cooperation in the fields of climate change, urban waste management, hazardous waste management, environmental education and all other facets of environmental governance in the two countries

• Colours ruled the streets today as people of all ages celebrated Holi across the country.
• Haryana‬ govt is contemplating on framing a law under which registration of pregnancy would be made compulsory within first three months of pregnancy.

• Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that aim of the law is to check female foeticide in the state.
• The HRD ministry has set up a 3 member committee to probe alleged misappropriation of funds received under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan by an NGO run by activist Teesta Setalvad, who is facing heat along with her husband in a separate case of embezzlement.

• To commercialise Ayurvedic medicines, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has signed a pact with Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS).
• The scope of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) also includes providing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) services to CCRAS in India and abroad.

• Modi has roughly 38million followers on social networking sites Twitter and ‎Facebook‬, putting him ahead of any other leaders in the world except Obama.
• Union Minister Raosaheb Dadarao Danve, who was made Maharasthra BJP president a few months back, has resigned from the Council of Ministers.
• Danve, who held the portfolio of Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, quit the Council of Ministers over the principle of 'one-man, one-post'.

• Giving a boost to affordable housing, the RBI today eased the norms for home loans for up to Rs 10 lakh by allowing banks to include stamp duty and registration charges to the cost of a unit.
