  • The Government has imposed Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir today as political parties fail to form a government and Caretaker Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unwilling to continue.

Awards & Honors
  • Pravasi Bharatiya Samman 2015
    • Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas concludes this evening with 15 NRIs getting award for their contribution in various fields.
      • Microsoft CEO Satyanarayana Nadella (Satya Nadella) and Guyana President Donald Rabindernauth Ramaotar are important personalities among them.
      • Among others who will get the award are Mala Mehta, Rajaram Sanjaya, Kanwaljit Singh Bakhshi, Rajmal Parakh, Duraikannu Karunakaran, Essop Goolam Pahad, Shah Bharatkumar Jayantilal, Ashraf Palarkunnummal, Mahendra Nanji Mehta, Professor Nathu Ram Puri, Dr Lulla Kamlesh and Dr Nandini Tandon.
      • The awards were presented by Vice-President Hamid Ansari at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
New Appointments
  • Maithripala Sirisena sworn in as the new President of Sri Lanka.
    • He is the Sixth President of Sri Lanka.
    • The oath was administered by senior Supreme Court judge, K Siripavan. 
    • Immediately after this, Ranil Wickramasinghe was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country.
Business & Economy
  • Marking Tatas’ re-entry into the Indian aviation space after over six decades, new airline Vistara today flew its first flight, and said its aim will be to “do it right” without making a big splash.
    • Tatas hold a majority 51 per cent stake in Vistara — a joint venture with Singapore Airlines, which holds the remaining 49 per cent. 
    • The first Vistara flight flew from Delhi to Mumbai today — over six decades after Tata Airlines was rechristened as Air India, and eventually nationalized in 1950s.
Sports
  • Virat Kohli is the highest ranked Indian in the latest ICC ODI ranking.
    • He figures at number two position followed by Shikhar Dhawan at 5th & M.S.Dhoni at 10th position.
    • South African Cricketer, AB Devilliers is the top batsman in the latest ranking.
