International Affairs
  • Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today declared snap Presidential election to seek a record third term.
    • Rajapaksa became eligible to call an election on Wednesday after completing the mandatory four years in his second term.
  • A female Chihuahua named Frida, has won her first political office, being named Mayor of San Francisco for a day as part of a campaign to support the city's animal shelter.
    • Last November, San Francisco transformed itself into the fictional Gotham City so that a little boy could celebrate his win against cancer by becoming "Bat Kid" for the day.
National Affairs
  • The Supreme Court removed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha from the 2G spectrum case, saying allegations that he had tried to influence the probe and help some accused appeared 'credible'.
  • 45th International Film Festival of India began in Goa.
    • Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the ceremony.
    • Arun Jaitley and Amitabh Bachchan confer on Rajnikant Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year.
    • 178 Films from 78 countries to be screened
  • In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, the HRD Ministry is planning to come up with a ‘Think in India’ drive to encourage students and researchers to come up with innovations and new ideas and to keep the talent back home from leaving abroad.
  • Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Nepal to attend the SAARC summit next week, the Union Cabinet today cleared three key framework agreements with member-countries to enhance rail and road connectivity and setting up of a regional power grid.
    • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Nepal for strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism ws also given a green signal by the Cabinet.
    • The memorandum is proposed to be signed during Modi's visit to Nepal beginning November 25.
  • Amid the ongoing row over replacing German with Sanskrit as a third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas, German Ambassador Michael Steiner reached out to members of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, a government agency dedicated to the promotion of Sanskrit learning.

  • Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), chosen for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2014.
    • The award will be given to ISRO for its contribution in strengthening international cooperation in peaceful use of outer space.
Business & Economy
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has decided to acquire mid-sized lender ING Vysya Bank in an all-share transaction to strengthen its position ahead of entry of new players.
  • Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has said that India's economy is coming out of its worst slowdown in 25 years.
    • It said, India's growth rate will grow by 6.6 per cent in 2015-16, up from its last forecast of 5.7 per cent in May.
  • According to a recent study, India will have 100 million online shoppers and the country’s e-tailing sector will become a $15 billion market by 2016.
  • Days after terminating its contract for the second metro with Reliance Infrastructure, the Maharashtra government today cleared two metro projects connecting Dahisar to Mankhurd, and Wadala-Kasarvadavali in Mumbai.
    • The Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd (Rs 25,605 crore) and the Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali (Rs 19,097 crore) metro corridors were approved in a MMRDA board meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

  • Jimmy Ruffin, the Motown performer who scored his biggest hit with 1966's What Becomes of the Broken Hearted, has died at the age of 78.
Sports
  • Top Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth enter quarter-finals of singles events in the Hong Kong Super Series badminton tournament.
    • Note : Recently these two won China Open (Badminton) 2014.
  • Quadruple world champion Sebastian Vettel will replace Fernando Alonso at Ferrari next season after signing a three-year deal. 
  • ICC ODI ranking : Team India retain top place, Virat Kohli 2nd in batting chart.

  5. I have done btech in 5 years which is a 4 year course what would i write in 'duration of course', 4 years or 5 years?

  6. not really but in notification they hv clearly mentioned "The knowledge of local languages will be tested in the
    interveiw. 10% weightage would be given out of total marks (35) for interview for possessing working
    knowledge of local language."

    so i guess you know wat is good for you....

  7. Hello Minakshi, Knowledge of local language is an added qualification.
    -10 % weightage of marks in interview is for processing knowledge of local language.
    -Still u can apply and compete even if u don't know the local language
