Percentage points refer to an increase or decraese of a percentage rather than an increase or decrease of a raw number. For example, an increase from 10 to 11 would be an increase of 10 percent. However, an increase from 10 percent to 11 percent is an increase of just 1 percentage point. Each percentage point can be subdivided into 100 basis points, For Example, an increase of 0.5 percentage points would also equal and increase of 50 basis points.

    1. Akash scored 73 marks in subject A. He scored 56% marks in subject B and 'X' mark sin subject C. Maximum marks in each subject were 150. The overall percentage marks obtained by Akash in all the three subjects together were 54%. How many marks did he score in subject C ?

      Maximum marks in each subject were 150
      Subject A -73
      Subject B -56% of 150
      Subject C -X

      The Average these 3 subjects is 54% of 150

      So,

      (73+(56% of 150)+X)/3 = (54% of 150)

      (73+84+X)/3=81 ==> 157+X=243 ==> X=86

  26. In 19th Question we have total population 6000 where Males and females are mixed.

    So we assume males = x

    and females = 6000-x (x is total pop)

    now we are given with increase percentage now simple :

    (8% of X) + {10% of (6000-x)} = 530 (where 530 is the difference between actual and incrased pop)

    now answer is 3500 after solution
