National Affairs
  • The birth anniversary of first deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Patel will be observed as National Unity Day across the country tomorrow.
    • PM Narendra Modi will flag off the grand marathon the Run For Unity in Delhi from Vijay Chowk to India Gate early morning.
  • With an aim to restrict fiscal deficit to 4.1 per cent of GDP in 2014-15, and to cut non-plan expenditure by 10 per cent, government has barred bureaucrats from traveling First Class on overseas visits and have been asked to use video conferencing as much as possible.
  • Special Investigative Team (SIT) on Black Money 
    • The Supreme Court appointed Special Investigative Team. This team will look into the black money cases.
    • Today this team announced that it will go after the offenders "big or small" but also made it clear that the confidentiality of account holders abroad will not be violated.

  • The first BJP government in Maharashtra headed by state party chief Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in tomorrow 
  • The World Heritage site Kaziranga national park (habitat of the Indian Great One-horned Rhinoceros) will be re- opened for visitors on 1st of November after its routine closure for six months.
  • Supreme Court gave time till 11th November to Delhi Lt. Governor for a decision on government formation.
    • Minority government with outside support is possible.
  • With focus on cleaning of the Yamuna and its bed, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is associated with 16 sewerage and water supply projects in India, today expressed hope that the Yamuna would be clean by year 2017 and its water fit for consumption and swimming too.
  • Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari inaugurated 7th Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Scientific Session (APHRSS) at New Delhi today.
    • "According to the WHO, cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death globally as more people die annually from these diseases than from any other cause.", he said.

  • India's most celebrated cueist Pankaj Advani clinched the World Billiards Championship (time format) title.
    • This is his record 12th title.
    • This is his third win in both the long and short formats in the same year.
International Affairs
  • UN chief Ban Ki-moon launched today a global campaign to end the often deadly practice of female genital mutilation within a generation, as survivors said it had "shattered" their lives.
  • The future of science lies in India, China and other Asian countries and these are set to dominate new scientific inventions and discoveries in the coming times, Nobel laureate George Smoot has said.
  • In an unpleasant development, which will further strain India's bilateral ties with Sri Lanka, a Srilankan court awarded death penalty to five fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu for allegedly smuggling drugs.
  • OECD meeting in Berlin
    • Fifty-one countries have pledged to pass on financial data after signing an agreement in Berlin to crack down on tax evasion.
    • India failed to attend this meeting.
    • OECD - Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development 
  • India re-elected to UN body on economic and social issues, garnering highest number of votes in Asia-Pacific group
    • India's term at ECOSOC was scheduled to end this year and it was re-elected after getting 183 votes, the highest in the Asia Pacific group, followed by Japan and Pakistan with 181 votes each. 
    • This win comes just a week after India got re-elected to the 47-nation UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the period of 2015-17.  
Science & Technology
  • Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO is planning to launch Mars-2 mission in 2018.
  • China has launched a spacecraft that will act as a precursor for a robotic lunar sample return mission and perhaps also help prepare for subsequent manned exploration of the Moon.
    • This mission is called 'Chang'e-5-T1'

  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled the orders of appointment of Finance Secretary Arvind Mayaram as Tourism Secretary and instead approved his appointment as Minority Affairs Secretary.
  • Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president B.S. Gnanadesikan today offered his resignation over differences with the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
  • Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai donated USD 50,000 to re-build UN schools in Gaza.

  9. what does screening test means here? is it necessary to attend it. if someone fails in it then will they allow him to write the main exam?

Sir i have applied for AO and Assistant for National Assurance ltd.And AO for united India insurance,but I am not sure of What to prepare.Through friends I came to know its similar to bank PO except for General Awareness,But when I attended last year National Insurance exam the syllabus was entirely different.I humbly request you to provide me with information as what to prepare for this exam.Thank You
