  • Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s administration signed security agreements to keep U.S. and allied troops in the country beyond this year and secure billions of dollars in aid for Asia’s poorest country. 
    • Note : Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has sworn in as Afghan President yesterday. 
  • The world has lost 52 percent of its biodiversity since 1970, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) announced in a study released today on the state of our planet.
  • India will host its first-ever Asian Development Tour (ADT) tournament with the launch of the TAKE Solutions India Masters from October 29 to November 1 in Bangalore.
  • India will host its first Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet and Expo - 'RE-INVEST' - from 15th February 2015 to 17th February 2015 in NewDelhi.
  • Thailand today announced plans to give tourists wristbands carrying their personal details, as the kingdom falls under intense scrutiny over visitor safety following the murder of two British holidaymakers.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met US President Barack Obama
    • US President Obama, who hosted the private dinner for the Prime Minister, greeted Mr. Modi saying 'Kem Chho' in Gujarati.
    • The two leaders "exchanged anecdotes about their first few days in office, to see if they had anything in common", India's foreign ministry said.
    • Mr Modi gifted the president a copy of Gita, one of the most revered texts of Hinduism, a rare photo of Martin Luther King at Rajghat, the memorial of India's independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, and a copy of a speech he gave in India.
    • Modi told the crowd that the 21st Century was "Asia's century" and repeated his promise to cut red tape, develop infrastructure and make it easier for companies to do business in India.
    • Modi will hold bilateral talks with Obama and discuss ways to boost strategic partnership.
    • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Indian Ambassador to US Dr. S.Jaishankar were also present at the dinner meeting.
  • The Election Commission (EC) has banned the display of political advertisements on State Road Transport Corporation buses and vehicles owned by Municipal Corporations etc, and other government owned vehicles when the Model Code of Conduct is in force for State Assembly or Legislative Council elections.
  • The Karnataka High Court will hear former Tami lNadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's bail plea tomorrow.

  • 4th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Review Highlights
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in its fourth bi-monthly credit policy review today (29th September 2014) has kept repo, reverse repo, cash reserve ratio (CRR) and bank rate unchanged. The fifth bi-monthly monetary policy statement is scheduled on Tuesday, 2nd December 2014.
    • Current Rates of RBI
      • Repo Rate..............................8%
      • Reverse Repo Rate................7%
      • CRR.......................................4%
      • Bank Rate...............................9%
      • SLR........................................22%
    • RBI retains growth projection for current fiscal at 5.5%.
    • Can reach inflation target of 6% by January 2016 said RBI.
  • RBI relaxed Know Your Customer norms by allowing self-certification of documents for opening bank accounts.
    • It has asked banks to allow self-certified copy of the document by mail, or post for opening an account.
    • Banks have also been asked not to seek fresh documents, if a KYC compliant customer desires to open another account in the bank.

  17. sorry you asked madam but i am interfering. In case of repo rate, bank sells govt. securities to the reserve bank with an obligation to purchase it at the specified rate which is 7.75 at the moment. so if bank sells securities at Rs. 1000 then it has to repurchase at Rs. 1775. In bank rate bank doesnt has to sell any security. Repo rate is usually for short duration (overnight) for meeting daily interest or other requirements. Bank rate is for longer duration. Bank rate is 1% higher than repo rate
